Most distasteful iconography I've ever seen. It's reminiscent of Ubuntu from like, 2002 or something. It's like what was probably going to be the iconography in the first builds of Windows Whistler. Holy cow these icons are just, bleh.

This isn't just flattening down Aero, this some hideous anti-metro/modern UI things going on here. It's annoying me how the old Desktop side of things have these ugly as sin icons while the newer modern UI has these slick modernly designed icons that fit into place. The Desktop ones just stick out like a sore thumb from yesteryear. I think the closest comparison is to BeOS.

That needs redesigning. All the Desktop iconography HAS to match the newer modern UI design, there can't be the same juxtaposition of something hideous and elder looking with sleek design that is the complete opposite of that. It's a lack of consistency here.

You will never see anyone in an art department wearing ties.

As long as I can customize the icons in my taskbar, which I only ever have 3 and the recycle bin, which is the only icon I leave on the desktop, it is what is. I'm not a fan of the over all UI in general, but now that I've used it for a while it has become tolerable, but there are still a few changes I'd like to see, mainly within the explorer, but I digress

Jeez! Five pages talking about a change to the Recycle bin icon!?

I don't care what the icon looks like, I only care about functionality.

Technically the file manager that shows icons doesn't come from Ubuntu directly. Ubuntu just choose the default file manager to use with that distro. In Ubuntu there are at least two ways to replace the default file manger. One is a pain in the neck, the other is you add another file manager of your choice and use that one instead.

The other thing I'm not liking are those icky ios inspired switches in the Alarms app and I think in a different screen shot, Cortana or the notification center.

True metro design is based of typography for the UI, instead of those switches it should be simple typography that when clicked or tapped will clearly show if something is on or off.

You do realize the icons can be changed by the end user.. right?

Nope, that would be discarding the OS based purely on visual effects....
This is a preview where opinion is elicited, that's all - icons have changed with each of the last couple of builds...good or bad

Doesn't matter to me, I make my own icons for the desktop.
Leaks, hoaxes, or scams! Who cares - icons can be customized.

What's under the hood is what matters - you can put an entirely new shell on Windows if you want to.

    Hi

I'm not big on the new icons but I understand why they are doing it, the want it to look new.
I create most of my icons myself and replace the default ones where I can.

Especially folder icons in Windows File Explorer.

I find it a lot faster finding what I'm looking for when everything isn't a yellow folder.
