Poor fellow! Stuck with the original Windows 8! Frightmare at it's worst I can imagine!
Why do you say that? It works WONDERFULLY. For what I need (remember I've completely hidden Metro, Charms, the Start Screen), it's perfect. In Windows 8.1, there were no improvements in the Explorer-desktop area of the product (all of the improvements were Metro related.) So in essence everything I like about Windows 8.1; I have it with Windows 8.

Now even better; I have codebase-identical updates WITHOUT telemetry and Windows 10 nags.

Seriously, I don't understand this obsession with the Win10 numbers! Of course it's already in wide use -- it was given away for FREE!!!

Two sets of number that you do NOT see reported are:
    1) The number of folks who went back to their former OS -- because they chose too, not liking Win10
    2) The number of folks who went back to their former OS -- because Win10 did not work well on their PCs.

One of the other tech forums has been running a poll summarizing these two numbers -- and it's running around 10%.

While that means that 90% (or so) of the upgraders are sticking with their FREE OS, it also means that around 20 Million folks have dropped it.

I certainly think it will pick up steam eventually. At some point there will be some killer app that every has to have, and Windows 10 will provide the conduit to users for accessing it. And of course if one sticks with Windows, it is the ultimate upgrade path.

However, Windows 10 will be a very different platform come five years from now.

I do like seeing number because I do like trend analysis. For example, I find it interesting how the "interest" in tablets have subsided now that larger smart phones can do the same things. A couple months ago, it found it interesting that Facebook was starting to once again overtake Twitter (which I would never have saw coming). Those things interest me.

What I was referring to with 8.1 was the option to boot directly to the desktop instead of being confronted with the Metro screen as you saw with 8 before any alterations were made. 8 was in fact "Metro in you face" as to how MS simply slam dunked everyone with how drastic the change had been without any forewarning! With 10 however MS had to rethink what was going to draw desktop users to the newer OS with the return of the Start menu BUT! with the Metro type tile section expansion to the new Start menu being implemented. MS Online Store once again being promoted with the store tile!

The urk now however has nothing to do with large goobers like what 8 saw but in how MS is going about promoting and seen as jamming 10 by some down people's throats! The improvements in 10 are there to see if you stay with it long enough while the marketing tactic is highly questioned! That's like someone simply pushing a wheel barrel full of something into your living room and dumping it out of the clear blue as to how this has been taken! People are simply getting hot under their collars! regardless of what improvements have been seen as far as 10 being in a progressive line of OS while ME, XP, Vista, 8 all got bad reps depending on who was looking?!

While many raved on about XP it was a constant BSOD ready to happen until SP3 was finally seen! Junk OS! rushed out to replace ME like 8.1 replaced 8! is just how people looked at that one who did favor Vista. Some held onto Vista after going back from 7 showing there will always be discontent regardless of what new version comes out! Even with 10 here I replaced the default Start menu on the main build with the Stardock Start10 option. That allows switching back and forth between the 10 and 7 as well as a Modern Start menu.

While some rave about Edge others hate it! The initial impression is that it wasn't far enough along quite yet to be considered for the default browser while still an improvement over IE IE is still put to use at times. Edge isn't totally ignored here however but just set to replace all others!
