The legal environment as to software installations may play a role here.

US law permits opt out, i.e. the enduser must uncheck a pre-checked box if he does not want the upgrade. This may explain in part why Microsoft acts so aggressively, it is a US-based company after all.

Other countries have different laws, e.g. Canadian law prohibits opt out and requires opt in, i.e. the enduser must check an empty box if he wants the upgrade. I believe that most countries in the world are like Canada, i.e. requires opt in from the enduser.

In any case, Microsoft has said a number of times including very recently, that it WILL ask for permission from the enduser before installing the upgrade, which also applies to endusers in the US.

I think that in practical terms that means "don't be click-happy" when you see the GWX invite, and you should be able to refuse the upgrade, wherever you are on the globe.

That 'bolded" part above.... I am happy with my Win 10, and have had no issues with it. So does that mean I can safely delete the entire "windows.old" folder to free up some disc space?
And to delete that folder, can I just "right-click" + "delete" on that folder?

You can delete it, sure. Best way is to run disk cleanup, take the option Cleanup system files and make sure the option to "delete old Windows installations" is ticked..

You could right click and delete it but you'd have to take ownership and grant yourself authority first.

If you do nothing it will disappear after 30 days or so anyway.

Seems to be based on weakness and not strength as far as I see it. If they were so convinced of the greatness of w10 and their new updates system there would be no reason for this over the top pushing of consumers to adopt it.

In my opinion, MS is really pushing the whole "Hey people, the landscape is a changin', sh** or get off the pot" approach!

The remaining users of XP wonder what all the fuss is about...
