I have tried tweeting @Windows. Some kind of explanation from MS is needed. I don't mind waiting for Windows update but need to know that they are actually going to deliver it. By not installing this as the standalone are we preventing further deliveries of build updates via Windows update. These are questions they should answer.

My gut feeling is come patch Tuesday it will come tumbling down the update pipe (as Shakenstirred suggested). Maybe even with a later build number. It could even of been done like this to get a feel for how the public reacts to it before they officially release. But it is ridiculous the lack of communication. I've made a decision to follow the conventional method via Windows Updates. If the unlikely scenario is that people need to do this standalone install to progress with future updates too then MS needs to make that clear. I know people like us are aware of this because we frequent Windows forums and try to look out for stuff like this but we make up the minority of users with this mindset. The vast majority will be totally unaware and remain on 10586.71 for as long as it takes MS to pull their fingers out and use Windows Update.

I do completely agree with that; I also choosed to wait for the "normal" way : Windows Updates.
And I'm even more careful with this particular Update since the info given by Porthos here ...
I can get the x64 .msu file to work fine on all of my PCs except for one. All of the other PCs are running the en-US language version, while the remaining holdout runs the en-GB (British English) version. The US ones update fine; the GB hangs about 5% in, then announces the installation has failed a couple of minutes later. I don't think this is a coincidence or an accident: I'm guessing that MS still has work to do to internationalize this update. Anybody else who's running a non-[en-US] version can either confirm or correct this pretty quickly.
Anyone?
