    Hi there.

What am I doing WRONG !!!.

I've had very few problems with W10 running on a whole slew of different hardware -- apart from some niggling network issues (Windows networking since time immemorial hasn't been its strong point) the only outstanding issue I have is switching to a 4K large monitor and back again sometimes causes the taskbar to lock or disappear completely if its at the bottom of the screen. If I have the taskbar at the top or on the sides of the screen this problem doesn't occur.

I suspect that as 4K monitors are quite new the drivers could still have an issue or two.

So when I read into a whole slew of problems on the Forum I just wonder how people install stuff or what their hardware is. For me W10 has been the OS I've had less problems with than anything else --including the still very popular W7.

    Cheers

    Hi Jimbo.
This thread really isn't about hardware conflicts or even windows 10 install difficulties (windows 10 installed fine on one of my machines) but about 10 being downloaded to users without express consent. More than that even when users have expressly altered a group policy to ask the O.S. to not allow O.S. upgrades, that Microsoft have released an update that toggles that setting off (and keeps doing so even when users toggle it back to off, This means that even those who have expressly asked to not get upgrades will get them anyway.

But those who do have problems installing seem to have one thing in common, that their machine worked fine on an earlier version (ruling out faulty hardware). on top of that when windows upgrades from 7/8.1 it is meant to ensure that all hardware is compatible, in fact the compatibility assistant even says in its FAQ that it will not allow you to upgrade if your computer is not compatible.

It is true that many have upgraded successfully and safely (at least for now) but for other that experience has not been a good one and they would like their Windows 7/8.1 machines to stay reliable solid 7/8.1 machines without Microsoft messing with their choices and update settings.. is this really an unreasonable request ?

I paid a lot of money for a retail Windows 7, I purchased it because it is Windows 7, I would like to keep Windows 7 without Microsoft putting what amounts to ad-ware on my computer, changing my settings when I have chosen not to upgrade, downloading a whole new O.S. onto my hard drive that I don't want (for my convenience of course..even though I have expressly indicated I do not want it)

To me it shows a certain nervousness on Microsoft's part to simply not have a ''Do not start the upgrade, or download an entire O.S. that i wont use, and do not ask again'' option on the GWX panel.. (and of course honour that choice) wouldn't that be simpler ? , then everyone would be happy.

I'm very glad you love Windows 10, for you it may be perfect, but there are others who simply do not want it anywhere near their machines.

That's the key. If MS can not be blamet for the diversity of machines that exist out there, then "he" should me less agresive on the upgrade thing (lettig everyon choose the OS) and being more specific about requirements for the system. Because, at the end, what is not realistitc is to say that Windows 10 is the best Windows and blah blah, when is providing so many troubles to so many users. They just can't say that.
They can say that, but of course it is highly subjective to the end user, personally I think it's the ugliest, buggiest O.S. they have ever produced.

That is just sad really don't know what to say, I guess whatever they can get away with, is what they will do. I no longer like Microsoft at all, I only still run it because for a few programs at least I need it. I'm going to not replace my Windows phone (with a Windows phone, though I doubt this will be a problem given that Windows phone is already on life support

Agreed Jimbo. I must be doing something wrong because Windows 10 is working flawlessly for me. I have no problems whatsoever.

Errr, ummm, well . . . Edge is aptly named . . . it's somewhere out there at the edge of nowhere near reliable. :)

Insiders using the Technical Preview of Windows 10 were told early on that we couldn't hide/block updates because Microsoft wants us to test it all. However, it seems that Microsoft may have even decided to let us block driver updates. At any rate, I'm pretty sure that those who have upgraded to Windows 10 (and left the Preview) are able to block some updates, but not security updates.

Well, you know... they can, but they shouldn't.

To all who state that Windows 10 works flawlessly for them, or runs fine on their 35 kazillon home computers. That is not the point. The point of the OP is about something else. Why is it the fan bois always find a need to peddle Microsoft's wares. I don't care if you like it and don't have problems.

I ran it and it was not a pleasant experience. The OP comment was about being forced down people's throats. I don't use Windows 10 and I don't like it to even appear on my 7 and 8 machines (what this article is about). There are so many things about 10 I dislike, if I see it running on a machine I want to bash in the screen. So you run it, fine. Don't shove it in my face or down my throat, Microsoft does enough of it. Get a clue, and please try to keep on subject.

They came here to gloat. I suggest they open a new thread and make the subject: ' The Perfect 10' . All of you who chose W10 can share your success and love for the new OS in that thread. No one is questioning their decision to chose W10. This thread is for those who do not like W10 being forced on them. They want it to be their decision. They have W7/8 licenses, have agreed to the EULAs and have accepted extended support (that MS offered) until 2020 / 20233 respectfully. This is a contract that they believe that Microsoft is trying to violate.

I am not saying this is always the case. I have read drivers update programs from manufacture conflicts with windows update in windows 10. In my case for my system, I found out it is best to let windows 10 windows update to handle the driver update. To be fair, some people have better luck with driver update program from the manufacture.

On some Oem systems, the driver update programs is not meant for windows 10. Those should be uninstalled before upgrading to 10 and let windows 10 windows update handle updating the drivers.

    I use both windows 7 & windows 10.

I still have a shutdown problem with windows 10.

    You know what's weird..

Windows 10 may become the most used, and the most unwanted O.S. both at the same time !!

It's funny, but I have not seen a trace of Windows 10 on my systems. I would not like to get it forced on me, but it would be OK to look at it in a virtual partition. Maybe I download one and try it there.
