Yep, somebody with the week-end duty at Microsoft goofed and pulled 10586 iso image instead of simply making an announcement for people to check their privacy settings and simply restore them if they didn't stick through the 10240 to 10586 RTM upgrade. The .14 cumulative update "fixes" the bug--which I never had because I didn't go from 10240 to 10586--I went from 10576 to 10586 in the Insiders program...

The 10586 RTM iso image has been restored, thankfully, aat Microsoft. Somebody at Microsoft probably got a good chewing out because of that mistake--having two iso images out officially was a very poor judgment call. Anyway, it's now fixed as this thread notes!

Who knows...maybe Microsoft was simply trying to avoid another round of extremely paranoid people ranting nonsense about Microsoft "spying" on them...(Just like they imagine NSA agents are hiding under their beds and in their closets...!) El-whakadoodles...

I agree. There are a couple of members in the Updates and Activation forum that are just stubbornly waiting for Windows Update.

Used the iso from the Tech Bench. Mounted and ran setup. Flawless.

I am one of those (not sure if I'm one of the ones NavyLCDR is referring to, probably not since I'm less active on this site than some) waiting for MS WU to get it right, it still fails every time, after initial TH2 release it failed at 66% download, now fails after that, and before install. I have iso's of 10240 and 10586, TH2 just d/l from tech bench.

The reason I am waiting for MS to get it right is this is their future, no more new versions with new names, all W10 continually updated through WU. There is no compelling reason to update to 1511, heck there really wasn't a compelling reason to update from Win7 to W10 other than it's where MS is going. W10 won't be cancelled and all W10 users/computers/devices migrating back to Win7.

So if MS doesn't get it right by being able to update to the next version through WU then many users including me will never move off of 10240. They need to get it right so W10 update through WU works every time with very few exceptions, there shouldn't be any need to uninstall this, disable that, jump through this hoop, skip that hoop, etc... to do one of the most basic things an OS does which is an update. This update is the first time I remember ever having any trouble with WU, it worked fine moving to W10 from Win7. The only reason I have any iso from any version is in case I ever need to do a repair install. My box doesn't have a recovery drive.

People can call it stubborn, uncooperative, whatever description that might come to mind. I don't care, I am very capable of doing an upgrade from a flash drive, but as stated before, there isn't anything TH2 does that TH1 doesn't do for my uses.

I had those same thoughts. I think you're right, in that Microsoft needs to make sure updates are as effortless as possible for the average user. It should "just work" ... of course, we all know how flexible that maxim is...
