Unless you plan on playing just about any MMO ever. Norton is the bane of every online gaming community because it's too invasive firewall will send your ping skyrocketing, and tends to corrupt the clients from false positives. Before 360 it was annoying because it killed system performance overall. They fixed that in 360, but made it more invasive.

BitDefender and AVG are on my top list. They detect pretty much whatever I throw at them, including malicious web code. Bitdefender has almost no impact on performance either.
Hi, I'm confused I was referring to Qihoo 360 TSE, not Norton. Unless I've totally mis-understood your message.

And I agree about Bitdefender free, unfortunately it is not compatible with Windows 10 (Yet?) Used to use AVG, had done for years, but recently found it comes with zen and other stuff installed I didn't want. :)

    hi
i don't know how they have calculated performance
i tried bitdefender and kaspersky , and they are not very fast compared to eset (real time engine)

i guess the point should be which av is most compatible with w10 , seeing at every update ,could be a compatibily problem

BitDefender was pretty quick about recognizing the issue and resolving it.
This has also been mentioned already previously in this thread.
    hi
does it feature an internal program update?
or should be download a new version and installed?
    thanks

It updates internally. When TR2 pushed out to my systems that weren't on the fast track, immediately after the update it alerted that it needed to be re-installed for compatibility, then proceeded to do so. Restarted, and everything was great. Settings kept and everything. I had to click a grand total of two boxes the entire process.

As for how they calculate performance, they use a test system with vanilla Windows and time how long it takes to perform certain actions under an exact setting and procedure. Then the same is done on a clean build with the AV product installed. They also test detection rates, customer service, and so on.

Based on those criteria, the best reviews I have found put them in the following order.

    1. Bitdefender Antivirus Plus
    2. Kaspersky Anti-Virus
    3. McAfee AntiVirus Plus
    4. Norton Security
    5. F-Secure Anti-Virus
    6. Avira Antivirus Pro
    7. Panda Antivirus Pro
    8. Trend Micro Antivirus + Security
    9. BullGuard Antivirus
    10. eScan Anti-Virus
    11. Avast! Pro Antivirus
    12. AVG Anti-Virus
    13. G Data AntiVirus
    14. Norman Antivirus
    15. ESET NOD32 Antivirus

Bitdefender has been the #1 position for about 3 years now. It does not currently come in with the smallest impact on system resources, but it excels in so many other areas that the small percentage is moot.

All I can say is I’ve been using Security Essentials in 7 since inception and then Defender when included in 8/8.1 along with Malwarebytes free. Also now with 10. Never a problem. Have I got infected? Sure, but caught with scans. I’ll still hold that the best solution is between our ears.
The exact same for me (though I never had 8 or 8.1, went from 7 directly to 10).

I am exceedingly careful about what links I follow and what files I download.

Anyone can recommend just a good Firewall?
I find AntiVirus software to be a pain and slow things down.
I have also found that just use a spare computer to scan programs for malware then send them to my main which runs smooth as a Dolphin after they've been cleared of charges.
