Assuming one has the correct version of the MCT .exe, if Microsoft pulled the ISOs off their servers, then where will it actually download the 10586 MCT ISO file.

Yeah, that's my question too. I have the 10586 MCT but if 1511 10586 isn't available from MS servers, you are going to probably get stuck downloading 10240 instead!

If i upgrade/update my desktop from 10240, i'll use the .iso from Tech Bench that i burned to a DVD to do it - that seems the only option other than to just wait to see what MS next move is as to how they're going to release it.

That's exactly my point. Sure it's still not perfect but basically it is good enough as is which makes MS decision all the more mysterious.
I don't have any problems either, but others did have problems. I and other successful upgraders should not think that we are immune to future problems.

The problems, especially in this past day, have undermined my confidence (and presumably others' confidence as well) in Windows-as-a-service with its continual and forced updates: a mission-critical computer may stop working from one day to the next without any warning.

Microsoft will certainly further develop Windows-as-a-service, but nothing is perfect.

In my opinion, Microsoft needs to develop an easy-to-use safeguard, perhaps something like a bullet-proof 'System Restore' or better.

MS pulled the Techbench ISO and changed the link to the mediacreationtool.exe

all the 10586 downloads remain within WU - if you have the correct version of MCT.exe then you get current version ISO's

The November update was originally available via the MCT (Media Creation Tool), but the company decided that future installs should be through Windows Update. People can still download Windows 10 [Build 10240] using the MCT tool if they wish. The November update will be delivered via Windows Update.

Microsoft has not pulled the Windows 10 November 10 update. The company is rolling out the November update over time – if you don’t see it in Windows Update, you will see it soon.

That actually makes a little sense to me - it allows Microsoft to control the loadings on their servers.

Obviously there is an issue with not being able to jump the queue by using the MCT (Media Creation Tool), for users that are ready to update, but it should still be possible to convert the Download to an ISO for multiple installs.

Of course the ISO downloads for Pro and Enterprise available to business users has not been withdrawn, so where high install loads are normal, this will take place as it always did - with the enterprise using the ISO to install

    That's unbelievably stupid.

So I clean install mine or someone else's PC with Windows 10, but I can't unable Bitlocker in XTS-AES mode or even change the title bar colours, until some undetermined time in the future when it decides that it's going to install Threshold 2?

Thinking of using this as the default Windows 10 Start-up sound for all new installs:

Yes I myself have went through that same experience when I did a windows 10 installation a while back on my computer and when I log back in the next 2. There was MS windows update available so I click update and after that my computer became non-responsive. It cause my computer to freeze up upon login into the desktop window. No keyboard or mouse responded so I ended up doing a clean installation of my old windows 7 disk back onto my computer. Everything that was on my computer was completely gone. I was pretty pissed when I couldn't get it to do a system restore or reverting back to my old windows.

Hope it stays that way, good thing I still have the 10586 TechBench ISO even though I am still on 10240 waiting for my WU to arrive as my last in-place upgrade install was on October 26, 2015 which means I should see WU in as little as 3 days.
