I was referring to the 8.0 to 8.1 update/upgrade. There were some that couldn't upgrade to 8.1 because their CPU was missing a feature required in 8.1. They are stuck running 8.0. Microsoft treated the 8.1 upgrade like a SP so end of support for Windows 8.0 is 2 years after the release of 8.1. It's something like that. I just got up and haven't had my first cup of coffee yet. Anyway, support for 8.0 is shorter than it normally would have been.

If you go to this thread below, you'll see that's precisely what I mentioned back in September. Windows will be updated sort of like Google Chrome, where you don't even really know what version you're on. It's just the most current version, all the time.

Yeah, I think your right, I think it was one of those features. It would be older hardware that would catch you out. My oldest CPU is a Athlon II, and all my PC's have AMD CPU's. It didn't affect me.

That is the one I was thinking of. :)

Some people stated that their machine was purchased with W8 pre-installed and they couldn't update/upgrade.
