I'd be happy to look at the logs if you like - can't really suggest anything else as it would be just guessing - you seemed to have covered most things.

Thanks but I'm just going to do clean install.

As it happens I'm planning to do a clean install today as there are a few niggley problems which only happen with upgrade - this for example On updated to 1511 machines gpedit.msc reports namespace conflict - Windows 10 Forums

Wow! I just checked gpedit.msc and get the same error on my desktop. hmmm...

Perhaps clean install is best bet (assuming it doesn't fail for the same reason). Best of luck either way.
    Thanks

For those who might still be interested in my saga with some 32bit Fujitsu laptops, which required me to remove a bank of memory before intitially installing W10 - I had to do the same for the first one when doing the TH2 update. I used the create usb disk to do the job.

I pulled another out of the field, tried the update - failed. This time I took the bank of memory out, and continued downloading. Took about an hour and a quarter, but it did the update/upgrade.

So the issue is still there, but I know what to do now - only 8 more to go!

Thanks lx07. I'll try a few more thing first and it those don't work, I'll just do the clean install. I don't have anything on the laptop that isn't backup up elsewhere so I'm not worried about data loss. The only thing I need to do is go to Asus' website and download all the applicable drivers for the laptop.

At any rate I'm in no particular hurry to get the update as the laptop is working fine as is so it may be a few days before I tackle the issue again. Will post back the results when I mess with it again.

    Thanks.

Wow that was fast. I have a core2duo - I started it at about midnight (upgrade not download). At 4:30 am it started yelling "Upgrading Windows! Don't turn off your computer" with no way to turn down the volume. I don't know when it finished as I closed the door on it and went back to sleep.

I've never had PC decide to talk (yell more like) during an upgrade before, most odd.

Don't know how long it took but much more than 15 minutes anyway :)
Do you keep anything like the Cortana or other narrator enabled. How about any other Ease of Access options? The only time you would even have a chance to run into that type of problem would be from having one of those or some chat enabled where the notification process is done by audio as well as visual onscreen. Even with buggy upgrades that still wouldn't happen on it's own except for some extremely rare glitch since any of those options have to manually configured once the OS install is completed.

I don't think so, I never turn them on - not intentionally anyway. I've done many upgrades and it never happened before. Unfortunately I was half asleep and when I couldn't turn down the volume just shut the door and went back to bed without looking into it.

Not a problem but it was quite disconcerting at the time...

Well I don't know what going on with my laptop but it simply refuse to update whether ISO, MCT, or Windows Update. I'm not sure if it's a drive space issue, a driver, software, or hardware issue but it simply won't update.

That said I'm done messing around with it, I'm simply going to do a clean install. This will also let me reset the partitions. BTW I was trying to use Paragon Hard Disk to resize my OS partition but PHD kept failing. Anyway I'm just going to wipe the drive and start all over from there with a clean install.

    Thanks.

I could imagine it was since this is a first of hearing it here as well. Something triggered something where you may want to check on the Ease of Access and other live chat options if any including Skype just in case the 10 installer enabled something on it's own during the upgrade. There's already been a few reports on the upgrade process being buggy for the TH2 which wouldn't come as any surprise at all while this problem you saw is a rather different one!

Most automatically prefer a clean install whenever possible! Even with a ton of programs on here at times I can wipe and start fresh at any time if needed and have always planned clean installs with each new version until 10 showed up with a new game! Since you already have 10 on you shouldn't expect to run into any activation issues.

The improvements as well as seeing new features added are not something you will notice without mention as the work was mostly under the hood with fixes while there is a known upgrade bug one Softpedia report outlines how to get past. How to Fix Windows 10 Threshold 2 Freezing During Install

There was another thread about this started as well that provides some steps on how to get around an upgrade that flops belly up on you while the Clean Install approach always seems to work the best! I know it may be a pain at times but does prevail in the long run.

So far here both physical upgrades as well those seen on the VMs to the 10586 Insider Preview as well as the TH2 being the general release flavor with a few minor alterations for general release naturally have gone well without finding the initial upgrade buggies seen previously with the 10240. But for anyone running into the new bug being reported there are some steps to try.
