I followed Frank's advice and upgraded with the USB this morning without a hitch

I just downloaded the ISO from the Microsoft site and upgraded both my machine (Insider 10586) and my wife's machine (from 10240.) Was painless. The Media Creation Tool has no x86/x64 extensions (unlike the 10240 tool) and auto-detects for for x86 or x64 and Pro/Home (but you can change between x64/x86 in the install menu of the tool if it's wrong or different from what you want.)

I would advise going this route because if you do it all directly through WU you will not have a copy of the 1511_10586 ISO when you're done and you'll have to download that anyway if you want to have a copy on hand--highly advisable.
I kept the Media Center tool downloads in both the 32bit and 64bit flavors while waiting to see who will or won't eventually decide to try 10 out as well as having seen two VMs upgraded and the two physicals also upgraded plus a new VM to compare the now seen general release without any build number specified. The product key acts a little different not seeing the skip option but prompted with: "You can still see Windows installed but... " when going to hit the next button while this release will accept 7, 8, 8.1 keys.

Win 10 build 1115 / 10586 updated and miraculously installed. Now at reboot it takes 7m29s to get to desktop!

Is MS just a bunch of incompetent idiots or what?

Win 10 is a disaster at best and class action law suit at the worst.

Never ever experienced such a piss-poor implementation.

I give up, install through MCT/USB with both drivers disabled, and Nvidia (still installed) driver rolled back to August 2011 version; still get the VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR

I never spend too much time trying to maintain the computer since Win10 era. It supposes to increases my productivity, so far the effect is really in the opposite.
