I am still waiting here in Malta and I hope everything goes well with this update.
ok so can i just click the upgrade option ??? instead of creating media ??
Earlier in this thread (#191) I posted how the update worked for my Dell XPS 8300 but not my laptops. Same problems a lot of folks seem to have had.
Subsequently, I've downloaded the ISO from Tech Benchand built a bootable USB using Rufus.HTML Code:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench
Problem is that Rufus 2.0 insists on using NTFS for ISOs and that won't boot on a UEFI system. I opened the USB drive and clicked on "setup.exe" and away it went. (From earlier posts here apparently you can just use the ISO and right click it > click Mount > click Setup.exe)
It went through the same setup as the update on the Dell, preserving all files and applications, with the exception of Speccy and 8GadgetPack. As before, 8GadgetPack popped a box saying it needed to be repaired. Once that happened, there was a "Do you want to run this program" box. Clicked yes, and it ran the gadgets as they were before the update. I'll have to try reloading Speccy later.
I ran "winver" and it showed it was the 10586.0 version. I ran the update and it downloaded a couple of files, the one I recall was KB3105211, a security update. Ran "winver" again and now it is 10586.3.
Looks like the ISO is the better way to go for now.
Still not sure why is it not showing in windows update in washington state area is it not suppose to be released on windows update???
My desktop upgraded without any problems using the ISO file downloaded with the MCT. I'll do my laptop later. I want to take this build for a test run first. :)
It is like banging heads...
Download the ISO (which is 10586)
To upgrade current OS -
DoubleClick the ISO to mount it - then run SETUP.EXE from within your current OS
this will upgrade/update your current OS to 10586 - keeping all your files and settings
To Clean Install Windows 10 (10586)
Create Bootable Media from the ISO and boot your PC from the Bootable Setup Media
This will Clean Install windows 10 - NOT keeping your files or settings
The Windows Update Method does the same thing as an upgrade/update..
Keeping your files and settings..
This WU method has also been known to FAIL..
Thus requiring another re-download of the same Update...
So for the best, fastest results and with the least amount of Bandwidth use -
To an Upgrade, Update or Clean Installation of windows 10 10586..
Is to Download the ISO...
