Two ways to look at it though. For those doing a first time clean install, they don't have to know what their embedded key is. The install media will find it automatically. Windows 8.0 and 8.1 MSDN install media does it too. Most aren't used to using the multi edition install media. The old MCT media is Core/Home or Pro, not Core/Home and Pro. If I use the old Pro only ISO my Core embedded key is ignored and I'm prompted to enter one. Use the Core/Home ISO and its read automatically. There are advantages and disadvantages. I've been using MSDN ISO, which I believe are identical to Retail DVD's, for a while now and figured it out a while back.
I'm using my old Technet 8.1 media, so it should be the same as you; however, I wasn't given a choice that I can remember.

You can easily see a drain of ~1%/h which is a bug.
Or it could be your battery drain monitor draining your battery....

    The Good, Bad and Ugly.

Bad = Laptop and Desktop not getting upgrade from WU.
Good = Laptop - Used MCT and mounted ISO and upgrade went great and is working fine.
Ugly = Desktop - Used MCT and mounted ISO but upgrade freezes and have to hit reset button. It reverts back to original and works OK. It will freeze during 1st restart at Coping Files 62% and 18% in Circle. Shows error 0xC1900101-0x2000D at Safe_OS Phase doing Migrate_Data. I had planed to do a clean install to convert to GPT/UEFI from the current MBR after the upgrade and had everything checked out and cleaned up. So now to gather all my programs and keys and plan my clean install.

Waited several hours for it to appear in WU then ran out of patience and just used the MCT. No real reason to wait for WU when the other easy option was right there.
