Does having (paraphrasing)"Allow PC to Download from Anywhere" turned ON allow updates to arrive faster? My wife's PC had this setting turned on, and received the big update really early in the release cycle.

So how is the booting and restart performance on the new build? I'm still on 10240 RTM and still on the fence on upgrading since I heard i will have to redo all my settings all over again. What's irking me about my current W10 is the time it takes to restart so If the new build has significant faster time to restart then I might upgrade

The latest should be about 30% faster as far as boot time according to the report I saw where I had to note that 7 was actually the one to see the desktop come up faster but 10 sees all the processes finish loading sooner while the desktop takes a longer to arrive. The shutdown speed for 7 blows 10 off however as 10 seems to drag on exit! Now here's a look at two VM's on being the 10586 Insider Preview where you see the version number, OS build, and product iD while the public release shows only the product ID tag.

I renamed each VM with a specified PC name to indicate which build or release was being seen. The 10586 Pro x64 on the left with the Threshold 2 download by way of MC tool on the right.

I just downloaded the update using the link someone had posted in here earlier today. It does seem like its a bit smoother and faster then it was. If you had not had the upgrade for 30 days you won't get the update through windows.

Well it's not an update but an upgrade that takes place into the newer build. If you signed up for the Get Insider builds logging in with a new MS account of course you would set the updates to automatic and the speed setting to Fast not Slow and simply wait a matter of hours once you get past the initial Windows Defender, Culmilative security, IE Flash player, and one or two other preliminary updated to then see the Th2_10 edition option come up and start downloading automatically.

One report stated about this being 30% faster then 7 while the 7 desktop loads up faster then 10's! Yet the processes finish loading up faster on 10 so by the time the desktop arrives you are almost ready while you are still waiting for things to finish up on 7. The improvements besides a couple of new items just added in will mostly be under the hood anyways.
