That explains it! Sorry, didn't mean to be rude or anything, was just genuinely curious if I'm missing something.
You didn't come across as rude at all; merely curious. These forums have so much to give that I'm truly amazed at the information gleaned here.

Yup, that makes sense. I don't visit any other website or forum for Windows 10 anymore, this is my go-to place on weekly basis whenever I want to read more about stuff that's happening or am looking for an explanation on something.

Thanks and carry on with updates, I'm downloading mine now as well! :)
    Yay! Another convert! :)

Sorry if this seems retarded but.. when you say clean install that means that you are erasing everything on the drive and then installing the operating system and then you need to manually re-install all your programs and personal files from say a flashdrive and downloading from websites?

If one wanted to do a clean install of Windows 10 with threshold included, I guess using the media creation tool, how do you do it? Thanks.
Unfortunately "erasing everything" is correct. But sometimes we just need a good excuse to do it to get rid of all the crap residing on our PC that slows everything down. And installing a brand new OS is a good excuse to do that especially if the update path isn't working for you.

Here's how to do a clean install: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1...n-install.html

You're assuming it right. All you have to do is download ISO from MS or using MCT, and make a BOOT DVD or USB. During BOOT and installation from either of them in the options delete old partitions and let install finish, you don't even need to enter registration, it will activate itself.

Okay, everything seems fine now with the upgrade but I'll keep this clean install stuff in mind should I need it. Thanks for the info.

Yeah what I initially did when I first put Windows 10 on my Windows 8.1 laptop is I did the upgrade through windows updates and then I did a reset in Windows 10 recovery with the do not keep files option. I've read that is kind of like a clean install. And everything was fine. I did it like this because I had a lot of trouble earlier updating an HP stream 11 netbook through the Windows Update upgrade. I did a reset through the win 10 recovery with no files kept and it fixed it up good. So I just repeated with the laptop.

Anyway, now the win 10 with threshold upgrade through MCT is working well after a little futzing about so I'll just leave it be but if there are issues in the future I'll follow the real clean install instructions. Thanks!

Edit: that's a great tutorial, thanks.

Just been reading thru all the posts here, where the heck are all those troubles coming from ? Believe it or not, this windows I'm om now are the same ones that started with W7 Sp1, upgraded to W8, updated to 8.1, upgraded to 10240 Retail and few days ago to 10586 and everything is working fine. Insider version I sometimes installed clean, sometimes upgraded but this one is basically W7 upgraded to 10586 despite a lot of HW and SW changes during that time. Few problems here and there, caused mostly by me but a MR backup to previous installation solved that.
I dunno either, but with all this many problems, it just cannot be a "nut behind the wheel" kinda thing! We gotta lay this one on Microsoft, pure and simple.

We Insiders got and installed Build 10586 with no problems or glitches for the most part; we got the cumulative update that took us to Build 10586.3 without incident.

And then . . . and then . . . along came . . . well, the upgrade from Build 10240 RTM to Windows 10 version 1511 (10586.3) which should have been as error free as the Insider Build 10586.0 to 10586.3, but was not.

So, in my estimation, something went wrong in the delivery code.

Well, most of us regulars here did not go through the online update path (MCT or ISO) or some did but replaced it with clean install right away which, of course, are working very well afterwards. Others depend on automatic updates blindly and hopes for the best and those are mostly the ones who are having problems. My online update was flawless. (EDIT: I forgot I didn't do online update but rather an in-place upgrade with ISO. My bad.) I had some problem clean installing another PC but that was just a little hiccup with the USB flashdrive I used.

Checked my PC (win 10 Prof not in insider) Windows Update, no sign of 10586 yet.
Downloaded and created USB to perform the upgrade.

I'll wait until Saturday Morning to work on this. You can call me superstitious but I will not install software on Friday, the thirteen unless it is an emergency!

    Good luck everyone!:)
And here I am thinking of updating two of my laptops (one's out on loan) today. :)

And no, I'm not all that superstitious since my husband's birthday is February 13, and of course, every so often it falls on a Friday.

Just checked here in UK still have not received it but reading through the posts will leave it for a while until it is ready to update on my computers.
As need Office to work and looks like some are having trouble.
I think you'll probably be OK unless you do a clean install. Which is what I did, so when I went to reinstall Office 365 2016, I couldn't. I can't pinpoint it to Windows 10, servers being hammered or something wrong in the Office servers, so I installed my old Office 2013 and it works just fine for now.

I really can't tell all that much difference between the "new" Outlook and Outlook 2013. :)

BTW, I will be trying to install O365 2016 later today.

OK, there were some default program changes that I had to go in and fix (search "Choose a default app" and choose "for each type of file" is the quickest way).

    <Snip>

So yes, I had to mess with it a bit, but I'm back to where I was.
That's been a specific gripe of mine for quite some time. Also, if you more than one printer and use them both frequently, they default to the last one used, which I didn't know until I had a letter print on 11 x 17 paper from my wide bed HP Officejet!

The reset in win 10 recovery with no personal files kept option - is this the same as a clean install? When I've done it I had to fill out registration info etc as if it were a new computer.
