    Both...very much correct.

And it probably goes back to what I was saying...I have a very basic, very pedestrian Dell with what I assume are very standard components, your typical onboard video and audio, etc. that is probably similar to whatever is on millions of Dell laptops.

Dell probably got onboard with the Windows 10 drivers early on. But even then, I believe W10 substituted its own audio driver (see my post on the Audacity thread) and it works fine.

That simplicity and common components thing probably helped my 10 upgrade work more smoothly than those with deluxe configurations/gaming video cards/etc. Again, just a theory on my part.

There is probably something to be said for mainstream brands outside of a decent custom build but that's no guarantee either .

OTOH it seems a lot of problems are with laptops maybe the HDWE vendors for those aren't keeping up ( sometimes they have some obscure HDWE brands even in name brand laptops. )

The latest Synaptics touchpad drivers Windows 10 likes don't work in my HP Elite book . I Had to roll back the driver and block persistent Windows 10 HDWE driver updates for the touchpad or any new HDWE drivers in all the boxes here ☻☻

I have 3 HP's here ,2 P7 's I upgraded dGPU's ,CPU's ,(PSU in one ) , hdd's and sound in with name brand parts ,a stock HP Elite book pro and a stock Dell Optiplex .... they all run w 10 fine but the Intel i7 S.B. IGPU's don't game w/o a d/GPU and this one had a pitiful Nvidia on board GPU w/o any vram for frame buffering 1080p & 2560p for 2 screens in here .

My reasonably stonking NVidia Gaming dGPU in the game /workstation box runs on W10 fine so does the by comparison lightweight AMD HD dGPU in the other P7 .

On the name brand note I'm picking this Sony XBR 55" X850C below up SAT . for the home /office /PC space to replace the 40" in here ( aside from TV use it will be an extended PC screen .) Might have to upgrade the lightweight d/GPU in here to push out 2160p but that's not a priority for now .

OTOH the new Android Smart TV functions and OS in the Sony XBR's are buggy right now they just updated the firmware ( again ) a couple of days ago but the Roku is better anyway for streaming than any smart TV and a 4K Roku just came out .

As long as the picture calibrates well when I get done with it and it otherwise works well , it can stay here
    otherwise it's a Samsung 55JS8500 .

OTOH we will be watching some ball today on the 64" Sammy Plasma out frt here today . ☻☺

Did you clean install with this ISO. If so, what does WINVER show, 10586.**

I have synaptic driver on two laptops, both are HP. The newer laptop synaptic driver works flawlessly. The other laptop is older and while I had Windows 7 on it, the driver (Synaptic) worked without problems. All the Windows upgrades since the beginning and including the most current release do not allow for the touchpad to work as it should --- scrolling has to be done by pointing and the edge of the dialog box and scrolling in that fashion. I did try to roll-back to older version but that did not work either. I attribute it to the age of the laptop and just live with that one. As I said, the newer laptop works without problems.
Enjoy your new toys (flatscreen 4K, etc. Happy Turkey Day

Thanks.....The 7 x64 pro > now Windows 10 10586.14 HP 8470P Elitebook is ~3 yrs old with an 2nd or 3rd gen i7 and AMD dGPU graphics that's the one that doesn't like the Windows 10 supplied Synaptic Touchpad drivers but the latest ones at HP work fine .

I'm hoping the new Sony X850C with a WCG Triluminos panel can get closer to the Samsung plasma here color wise. All but the most expensive LCD's have a hard time getting there but decent LCD's aren't bad if get a good one . The 40" Sony it's replacing is fairly decent as LCD's go but it doesn't have WCG /P3 color + HDR and it could be bigger 4K is not a big deal on a 55" ( for TV ) but it comes with the rest of it.

yes, color matching can be a tremendous problem. Best of luck with it. It'll take some tinkering I suspect!

I'll calibrate it to bt709 standards for day nite and in various modes for different content then tweak the calibrations to my preferences while leaving at least one of the cinema modes at an accurate bt709 standard .

I did that on the 40" Sony and the 64" Plasma and it made a big difference (improvement ) on the Sony . The PDP didn't need much and I don't have to switch into different stored calibrations often on the PDP .

Maybe OLED will get affordable, brighter and some of the issues worked out in a few years . Emissive displays are usually better than passive LCD .

FWIW Sony makes a $40,000.00 36 Inch OLED color grading monitor but no OLED TV's .
LG has a $1700.00 1080p OLED but not bright enough for this room and it's curved.

Interestingly enough I've read Windows 10 has some sort of 4K support now so maybe that will be decent if I upgrade the dGPU. when I'm using the TV for an extended screen .

    Probably a silly question.
How can I verify that the ISO I download from the Microsoft site (I won't use any other site for this) is the latest November version before I actually do the download?
The reason for the question is that I have a limited download quota from my ISP and I don't want to waste it on a previous version of the ISO. I want the latest as one of my PCs failed to upgrade (no reason code given) and I figure doing a clean install while entering my Win 8 licence key will get it installed for me.
I'm located in Australia so the English(United Kingdom) version is the one I'll be getting.
    Thanks
