Updated the Acer laptop on the 17th via MCT - have both Tech Bench & MCT .iso as well as Tech Bench DVD. I also still have the 1511 MCT version on my desktop.

A few questions (perhaps just 'educated guesses' but maybe somebody has first hand experience since MS removed the 1511 upgrade/update) -

    1) If i use the 1511 MCT tool to update (NOT clean install) my desktop, do you think it will work, considering it has to download files from MS?

    2) How about using the Tech Bench DVD i created, would that be a better way of updating (i don't think it needs to download any files since the files would already be on the DVD, correct??)

Any and all responses mucho appreciated!

OBTW Wynona, it's c'est la vie not se la vie. LOL, methinks you had Spanish and French on the brain!
I haven't tried it today or yesterday but the MCT is basically an executable download link (s)

IOW if it works at all for now you will probably get 10240.

From what I've read at ZD Net Tech bench is 10240 now also ,so are the ISO /USB files at the MCT links and the Windows upgrade page . IOW they got it locked down to 10240 unless you are an MSD subscriber .

More than likely you are right - that's why i'm leaning more toward using the Tech Bench DVD to install 1511.

    Thanks!

10586 is still available outside MSDN:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...eationTool.exe English UK. Downloaded build 10586 using this Saturday about 2000 hours UTC , but it failed to create iso image - but I saved the esd image for x64 Core and Pro.
The links to Microsoft update ESDs given in post #83 at [C++] ESD - 10586 (ALL) - WZT (Дядько ЦЯ) - Pastebin.com are also still up.

I wouldn't worry that the build is insecure, unstable or harmful in any way - Insiders would have discovered that - but It is something to do with the distribution and digital entitlement that is not working as Microsoft had hoped.

Is Microsof saying the mct is given people the wrong edition or are some just missing that option to choose home or pro on a clean install?

Folks were probably getting free Windows 10 activations outside of the licenced upgrades somehow and maybe free upgrades from Home to Pro as well with the MCT and the ISO downloads and winkey entry so they probably just locked it down and want people to use Windows update or a licenced in place upgrade path. They will probably put the 1511 build (10586) back on Windows update soon if they haven't already .

That being said my ( 4 )1511 builds are working fine

All this mess had me believe it's a RECALL but nothing (unusual) is wrong with the update. As usual Microsoft PR leaves a lot to be desired.
Here's what I have run into:
Microsoft pulls the Windows 10 November Update
    Yahoo
So it's only ISO that's missing and only from usual places general public can get their mitts on.
If MS is thinking to distribute new builds thru WU only, they have to vastly improve delivery thru it. I had a problem that it was downlaaded into $Bt... folder but never offered to install. I made ISO out of it and installed without a problem.

Could it have anything to do with impact on the update servers

Doing the updates via WU, MS can control how many machines at a time get the update, when they are done then make it available for the next batch
With people downloading the update manually, it could potentially be many more people downloading it, so the hit on the update servers is much higher

Possible?, or am I talking nonsense

The story that's going around is they want users to do it via Windows update. If your going to clean install, you'll have to install 10240 then upgrade to 10586 via Windows update. Why, who knows?

So those of us who need an ISO are back to searching for unofficial files.
