First Major Update for Windows 10 Available
-
Installed 10586 several days ago...small issue:
Can anyone help...on boot sometimes windows goes straight to desktop from welcome screen, sometimes welcome hangs for 10-15 secs before desktop displays with no rhyme or reason. This is from a shutdown then power on.
Any ideas?
Not really, but have you tried turning off Fast Startup and doing some true "shutdowns"/"startups" (not restarts) to kind of clear things up?

Or it's taking it's sweet time to register with MSA ?

Thanks for your reply, I've tried that with no joy...guess i can live with it though didn't seem to do it with 10240.

If you already had 10 activated on that computer, you don't need to enter anything.
How would that work? I've just downloaded the new 1511 ISO (from my University, with a fresh W10 serial, so the question is academic). If I format the drive with the previous version of W10 and then install the new version, will it activate itself automatically without asking for the serial?

Yes it will activate, as long as its the same version, Home or Pro. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation, and see what it lists for product key. If it says activated with a digital entitlement you can clean install that version without entering a key and it will activate. I've done it with 10586, all my Pc's had 10240 Pro on them previously with digital entitlements from the free upgrade offer. I clean installed 10586 Pro and they activated just fine. If that PC has an embedded key for Windows 8/8.1, it will be read and used automatically, so keep that in mind. If it's a Core key you'll get Home, a pro key will get you Pro.

Yes, because Microsoft has a record of the footprint of your computer from the previous installation.

Lol, university, academic question.
That's another story but normally downloaded 10586 would activate with same MSA even with clean install on same machine it was activated on.

I remember backlash to every Windows except there's much more of internet nowadays and many more ways to blow off some steam. It's just that I don't give rat's tail about all those reviews, good or bad, I just look what's in my best interest.
Right ....back in the Win 95 era a banner someone made at one of the popular overclocker PC forums back when we were overclocking Celeron 300 A's and the like was on a cloud background and in Microsoft script it read :
Why Microsoft ....... Because we have no choice !
Microsoft aka Skynet ☻☻
