500 MB hidden System Reserved partition on my non UEFI system, and a 450 MB hidden Recovery ( I think it was labeled recovery?) partition on my UEFI system. Both were clean installs. Windows creates it automatically, its normal.
I asked because when I did clean install in July of build 10240 this partition wasn't automatically created.

They were for me with build 10240. Windows 8 and 7 create the system reserved too. Size varies a bit from OS to OS.

Is there a reason why that this release is 10586.3?
There are 2 components to Windows NT Kernel mainly due to security design of the system > Kernel mode and user mode. I do believe the first 5 numbers is the Kernel version. It will change due to a major revision of the previous Kernel and User mode. The numbers after the decimal point is a minor revision of the user mode and/or of the Kernel. When writing code they keep a file of it and title it with a number. The highest number is the latest version. Therefore, 10586.3 is a minor revision of 10586, meaning basically they tweaked bugs and/or security holes of 10586. No major design changes or feature additions.

    Ah, never say never ...

Until 2020 (end-of-support for Windows 7) or 2023 (end-of-support for Windows 8/8.1) there is ample time to shield oneself from the bleeding edge of new technology. I just want to jump at the earliest opportunity and with minimal risk :)

Will it work from the Cmd Prompt? Curious because I usually Run: winver.
Yes. You can also ask Cortana winver and get the same thing.

You missed my point . . . there will never be a thread announcing a new Build or an upgrade that will be 100 posts or less! Ergo . . . you ain't never gonna update again! :)

It's the recovery partition created auto by win 10. Don't try to delete it. The 900 I have no idea.

My laptop has a 450 MB Recovery and a 100 MB EFI, my desktop PC just has the 500 MB System Reserved. I deleted all the Windows partitions and installed to the unallocated space. If you upgrade or don't delete all those hidden partitions you can end up with a bunch. OEM PC's will have a few more hidden recovery partitions. It all depends on how you do your "clean install".

I started getting 450M recovery partitions about 3 insider preview builds before 10586. The space was taken off the end of my C drive. I just deleted the extra partition in each case and merged the space back into C.
