I agree... when the build becomes the new RTM MS will have to make that one the available via the media creation tool. Or.. heck they could just use the method they have for years and only have the base(10240) and everything else will come via an update.

I hope the do come out with an ISO.
I kind of messed up my last post. I edited accordingly.

    BunnyJ,

I have notice they do update at least the media creation tool (Not sure about the iso images) with the most current updates. I think they do that once a month.

Is there a way to tell what build/version you have on a dvd or a usb drive before installing windows 10?

    I wondered that myself.

I just happened to find another way. Boot up the windows 10 instillation. When you see language screen, type shift +F10 to bring up the command prompt.

Then type ver and hit enter.

The simplest thing is to check the properties/details of setup.exe on the setup DVD or USB in File Explorer:
Windows 10 Build 10586 Launches as Threshold 2-screenshot-1-.png

7-zip version 15.10 beta now can view and extract from inside ESD files as well as ISO and WIM images. The 7-zip file manager will allow you to read properties of files inside the image files.
Windows 10 Build 10586 Launches as Threshold 2-screenshot-4-.pngWindows 10 Build 10586 Launches as Threshold 2-screenshot-2-.png
Note that the properties of the file inside the ESD or WIM include the xml information for the Image file - which again contains the build number.

I use permanent marker pens to label an ID on DVDs, USBs if I am likely to forget their contents.

When the "preview" version came out for 10247(?) - the version that was released to the public, the watermark was removed from the Preview version. So this new "Preview" version could be the Threshold 2?

I got a hold of this update today and put it on my No 2 machine that had an Insider build but, is this the same one that will be the Threshold 2 release promised for the 10th?

New ISO's usually show up on the Insider Page when a new build goes out on the slow ring. 10586 is I believe Fast Ring only at the moment. Slow Ring on patch Tuesday maybe? If the Consumer Build does become 10586 they will update the MCT to that build. Why wouldn't they, wouldn't make any sense not to. The question is when do they update it? They may wait a few days just to get people to do upgrades for testing. Me, I'll just keep looking at MSDN for new ISO's to show up. When that happens I'll test the MCT to see what comes down the pipe.

Howtogeek has a nice article describing in detail some of the upcoming changes. The only "disappointment" IMO is that the Start Menu will now have advertising for targeted apps.

Look for "What's New in Windows 10 First Big Update".
