I'm not a geek in the true sense of the word, but knew much more than the commoner. I'm just learning the "guts" of the machine having been recently retired. However, I do pride myself in advanced navigational skills, especially keyboarding, Office Pro suite, IE, bookkeeping software, and construction estimating software, having used it much in business, which is pretty much why I'm a MS proponent of MS's new direction. A much quicker way of navigation and getting tasks completed with much less time.

I like 10, but much prefer 8.1 for navigation. I can see why MS made 10 more desktop orientated for those that want to use Win32, but IMO the desktop isn't really all that important any longer with the introduction of WinRT Store apps. Start menu should be and is in 10 with Tablet mode just as with 8/8.1. We'll see the desktop as we know it being phased out eventually in years to come.

I'm dual booting Insider 10586.11 and a 7x64 licenced upgrade to same on 2 NTFS volumes on this hdd . I have 3 other PC's running licenced 7x64 pro upgrades to RTM 10240 > 10586.11 this (the daily driver ) is in my specs and others are in my sig .

Been using Windows since 3.0/3.1, been more than a few times I hated Windows along the way and othert times I thought it was just OK.
Win 7 sp1 was the first one I actually liked !

At work I Used Unix Solaris and SAP on Unix <<< that one was the real deal arificial intellegence it's amazing what it can do (scary too ! )

AFAIK .......Windows cant touch that but it's not as user friendly /menu driven and definitly has a learing curve .

We used Windows for light office stuff some spreadsheets and P/P presentaions but outside of that the businss end oporations and important stuff was always on Unix Solaris or SAP on Unix .

Win 8 & 8.1 were mis steps IMO being slowly redeemed by Windows 10 ............but nothings perfect not even Linux Ubuntu

I cant see UI ( Win RT apps) replacing the desktiop for productivity they are lame and more for phones and tard pads IMO.
One Drive is too slow ,Google Docs works better but it's no subsutiute for a x86 Office suite either.

Only UI apps I use now and then are Money ,News ,Sports , the Mail client and the Music player they cant do what a web browser or x86 .exe can do and are way to slow !

I updated the 2 10586.3 NTFS volumes yesterday to 10586.11 on this box 3 more PC 's to go here.

They never are! When downloaded separately those are only a few MBs in actual size as a rule namely being a small fix for something. TheThreshold 2 however while coming by way of the updates is still a full upgrade install being an entirely newer build being downloaded as many saw the 10240 do! This is how MS plans to be upgrading 10 as you go along every few months rather then seeing separate service patches and packs as seen previously where you could take the 10240 and simply play catch up. No! Their plan is have you upgrading each time!

As for those 8. 8.1 Metro type apps as well as some now seen in 10 They can be stuffed! I put that point blank about those! Fortunately a guide to show how to put back the original Windows Photo Viewer to replace the new and obsolete Photo viewer for touchscreen devices which hardly works anyways can see the older viewer go on and be made the default app again!

As for the Mail app that turned out to be another bumble the ball by MS there! I had to look up the 2012 Windows Essentials Live in order to see Live Mail put on 10 to be able to import mail direct from both old live.com live email and newer outlook.com hotmail there as well. Skype however is a much better replacement there compared to the old Live Messenger. IT took a 3rd party to get that one right.

The Media Creation Tool is updated to each new build too. No having to install and then upgrade next time around. You just clean install the latest Consumer release and then hit Windows update for the few patches released after that. They may even roll some of those into the ISO as well.

I think they realized that they would need to simply things even more so since people were getting confused trying to upgrade to the wrong edition as well as getting more people to upgrade once word gets out. That's another good reason never to buy any new system right after any new version comes along as the updates will come later in with the next build at times.

Yet you can now download a single ISO that rolls up about 10yrs. of updates for previous versions. That would be good for those planning to dual boot 10 with one of the now defunct versions(XP, Vista nothing now for 2000, ME, Legacy).

As for 10 wanting to avoid the need to put out new media for each build MS has been planning to release each build by way of the updates method to start with. Rather then a ton of updates if you should need to reinstall 10 as previously seen you would put the latest build on again already having things wrapped up in one shot. You'll end up with much less loose updates in the interim between now the TH2 and what comes next likely the TH3 and TH4 in that progression if seen at all.
