Like OldMike, I'm retired and don't rely on the cloud much. It's all home computing.

I've been thinking recently about having a different kind of backup. Sure, you can back up your data, so when Microsoft takes away or reduces free cloud storage you relied on, you can store it locally, or on Google cloud or Amazon cloud.

But what about the operating system. What's the backup for Windows 10? What if Microsoft makes a change you really can't live with on Windows 10? What then? Well, I though about that and I have installed dual boot Linux Mint on all of my computers. As a test I ran Linux Mint for a day or two just to see if I could do without Windows 10. It turns out I could. Everything I do in Windows 10, I found I could do in Linux Mint. So now I have a back for Windows 10.

It's good to have a backup plan that doesn't rely on the goodwill or charity of any big, fickle corporation. Whether it be Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, etc.

Sounds like you got a good plan, nothing wrong with having a back up plan. Now that you mention Linux mint, I would love to ask you some questions on Linux mint with a NVidia GTX 750Ti card.....sometime.... :)

I'm new to using Linux rather than just experimenting with it. From what I've read, there is poor support for some hardware. I own mostly Dell desktops and laptops. Luckily, all of them have had the proper driver support whenever I've installed Linux.

Well, poor support comes from the manufactures who don't take the time to provide the drivers for other OS's. With that said, Nvidia usually has much better driver support than some other chipset makers.

The problem with the GTX750ti isn't NVidia, it is that proprietary drivers don't get into the kernel and the Nouveau drivers (open source copy) hasn't been updated yet (bit off topic, sorry)

I don't need the free storage, but my opinion is that they should have left free storage alone, so I'm going to upvote ya!

BTW, that shouldn't have been marked as a suggestion; it's clearly a problem!

A suggestion was my choice because I can use my Bing Rewards to get more(if they don't kill that off too) or there are other free cloud services. I don't need but maybe 10GB max. But... they create an OS and apps that depend on OneDrive then renege, that's bad; but there are also 3rd party apps I could use, and leave the eco system and just use the OS that I love so much. It would be a shame, because I really LIKE their apps personally.

    I still haven't activated Bing Rewards; I'm told it's good, but well . . .

Yes, I'm in agreement about the OS and Apps that need the cloud.

I just had a thought . . . Microsoft wants to have one billion (don't have enough fingers and toes) users and when the bean counters got the information, they almost messed their pant(ie)s up! Can you imagine what 15 GB plus 15 GB Camera roll would come to times a billion!? (Still don't got enough fingers and toes!) 30 billion GB!? It boggles the mind!
