Microsoft working on fix for Surface Book screen flickering issue

People who bought the first batch of Microsoft's Surface Book slab-tops are furious that a glitch causes the screens to flicker.Microsoft's support forums and the Surface subreddit are filled with folks claiming their displays erratically wink completely on and off. This happens, we're told, whether the tablet is running on its own or when it's docked in its base station.

Microsoft has confirmed a fix is on the way.

"A small number of customers have flagged some issues with their Surface Book," a Redmond spokesperson told The Register. "We are working hard to resolve them quickly and easily with Windows Update."

    UPDATE - Possible workaround

    Try this:
Open a command prompt window with administrator privileges and type the following command:

    dism.exe /Online /Disable-Feature:Microsoft-Hyper-V
Additionally, you can try to disable Hyper-V from the Add Windows Feature menu in Settings, but the aforementioned command method is faster and works instantly if you're logged in with administrator rights.

Microsoft hasn't provided any specifics on the release date of this patch, but the company is probably working at full speed to ship it as soon as possible, so expect it sometime next week.

UPDATE II - Microsoft Rolls Out Update to Fix Screen Flickering

Microsoft Rolls Out Update to Fix Screen Flickering on Its Laptops

Surface Book firmware update now available for download

The first buyers of the Surface Book have already found issues affecting “the ultimate laptop,” and one of them is causing the screen to flicker at random times either on the desktop or when running third-party apps.

Microsoft had already acknowledged the issue late last week, and today the company has released the very first firmware update that comes to address this problem and improve the general performance of the device.

The new firmware is called System Hardware Update 11/2/2015 and includes HD Graphics 520 driver update to version, which, according to Microsoft, “addresses some display issues, including some scenarios that result in screen flickering.” This means that the graphics drivers were the ones causing the screen flickering, so make sure you update them in case you’ve seen this problem on your device as well.
