The old Control panel may soon be gone

    Tried 10 Returned to 8.1

Microsoft can do whatever they want with W-10, I really don't care. After a full month of W-10 I am perfectly happy running W-8.1 until 2023 and by then no one knows what the computing scene will look like. In the meantime, if and when W-10 offers me something that I need that W-8.1 doesn't provide I may reconsider but I am not going to reinstall W-10 just so I can say I am running W-10. After 1 month I saw everything I needed to see.

I don't think people really comprehend the extent of what MS means by OS as a service. It means less and less operator control over core functions. You have heard of "dumbing down the electorate" well MS wants to dumb down the users, kind-of-like McDonalds showing a picture of a hamburger and fries on a touchscreen order terminal, that's what the modern apps remind me of.

So long as MS move everything to Settings, before removing Control panel, Losing no functionality, all will be good.
Having only 1 option means we will soon get used to where everything is, rather than flitting between Control panel and settings.
Microsoft can move everything, but unfortunately, the company puts these weak looking little gray links at the bottom of many of the main setting pages. These easy-to-miss links take you to the functions that enable the most customization and (IMO) usefulness. If Microsoft moved all the settings from the legacy (pre win10) Control Panel to Win10, finding what you want would be a nightmare! Hopefully we'll still have "God Mode" available. Since learning about it here in the forum, I'm using it more. Really neat. Hope it stays!

As long as they move all the settings over and not cut a lot of them out I don't really mind.

I think we'll see Settings as the front end for all settings eventually. That's close enough.
For the advanced settings, I doubt Modern UI is as good as simply using the existing Control Panel applets. Maybe that's why they haven't been rewritten yet.

I note LeBlanc said 'eventually' and that translates to 'may soon'!

Now I am running 10565, the sound has failed. It's not obvious in any part of "settings", although it is still in control panel.

What bugs me about Settings is the bland way in which it is displayed. You would think that MSFT never heard of a colour display the way they use bland mono-tones. almost puts me to sleep.
The Control Panel is much more colourful and therefore easier to navigate.
Besides that, if they keep the functionality of the CP in Settings I won't complain.

I can't stand this "Settings app" garbage... It's so irritating, buggy, and a mess.

I would also like to see a Save button so I can fuss with the setting then when I'm happy, click Save. As it stands now any change is immediately applied.
