As I said before, a good compromise would have been to use the modern Settings app in tablet mode, but when in normal desktop use, to have the choice between modern Settings app and classic Control Panel.
Problem with this is that Windows 8.x got a bad reputation for having 2 ways todo the same thing, which is why everything is being merged into one

Its a while ago now, but I am sure a survey was done during the beta period of 10, the majority wanted Settings instead of CP, now this has been done people are complaining and asking for CP back

If people want CP to remain, then add your 'Me To' to the items in the feedback app, It probably wont make any difference now, but its the best way to tell MS what you want

If they want to remove it, they must first move all classic features into the modern app. They cannot remove it right now because you cannot do everything in the modern app. There is no 1:1 correspondence, that's what I'm talking about. Once they make the modern app equivalent to the classic, I would have no problem removing it. But for the time being, the modern app is too limited to use it alone and forget the classic!

Yes, assuming there is a control to pin! If they remove classic Control Panel right now, chances are we will get stuck not being able to do something more than just the basics. Basics are good for novices, but very annoying for experienced users that want more control. It's like driving a car with auto transmission. Yes, you go everywhere, but it is hard to accelerate really fast when you need to. Even worse, you ride a fully-automatic car and you cannot speedup when in a hurry as it is pre-programmed to drive to your destination at specific speed.

You don't seem to understand. Everything is being moved to the settings app, slowly, but surely. That's why the CP is still there(and things in settings app are still linked to the CP). It will probably take a looooong time before Win10 becomes totally WinRT, so you will have more than enough time to learn where everything is.

Too true I myself have already adjusted to settings, it is a lot better and neater and I find it loads faster.
There is a saying Rome was not built in a day.
Same as windows 10 it has to be done bit by bit.

I would like to know where you're getting the idea that only the basic features of the CP will be moved over to the settings? Has MS stated what they will and will not move over??

It sounds like to me that you're over reacting to this and you need to wait a bit to see what does happen.

    Hi Cliff,

Just wondering... How did you get your "close" "X" buttons to be red, even if your mouse isn't over it? I'm hating the design choice that it isn't red while the window is active.

You must understand that nobody asked for a "PC Settings app" that Windows 8 shipped with. Microsoft just randomly semi-implemented that unwanted Control Panel wannabe.

Right. But who was their poll audience?

Windows Phone users who believe in Microsoft's "one platform" idea? Who believe in WinRT? Who believe in "windows apps"?

Yes, that's who was surveyed. So of course they said yes to the " Settings app".

Microsoft should've surveyed existing Windows 7, Vista, and 8 users, both home users AND enterprise administrators.

Their "survey/poll" couldn't be more biased towards their "one platform" idea.
