Yup, same. I had this dilemma too, but that's why I'm going to pick up my own full 2016 license first thing tomorrow morning. I don't like recurring payments and not actually owning software.

Can't wait to try 2016, been using 2013 for a little while now!

What's the different between Office Insider and First Release of Current Branch?

Office Insider is for Home, Personal and University (OneDrive for Business and Skype for Business aren't included). First Release is sort of like Office Insider, but not quite as fast on the update route. What irks me is that as a ProPlus subscriber (business), I'm not eligible for Office Insider.

Just so you know, Clam, Microsoft makes it abundantly clear that we don't own the software; we only own a license to use it. :)

You can buy Office 2016 at a one-time cost of $149.00 or buy a personal subscription for $6.99 per month or $69.00 per year. If you have only one computer, either way is as close to economical as you can get. Also, as with Office 2013, you're only allowed to put Office 2016 on one computer . . . laptops are no longer included. Also, if you buy Office for the one-time-cost, you won't get new features and upgrades/updates as they're rolled out. With the subscription, you get that. Security updates should be included, though.

Then there's Home Premium, which costs $9.99 per month or $99.00 per year. As with Personal, you get new features and updates/upgrades as they're released.

The real perk with Home Premium, though, is that you are allowed to put Office 365 2016 onto five PCs/Macs and five 10.1" or less tablets. Tablets over 10.1" will count as a PC/Mac.

I have one desktop, two laptops and an 11.6" tablet (four computers) total. If I were to buy four licenses for Office 365 (MSI), I'd spend $600.00. So, I can hang onto those four MSI licenses for six years (with no new features, updates/upgrades) or subscribe to Office for six years and get new features, updates/upgrades as soon as they're released.

For me, it makes more sense to subscribe.

Excel has some really great new features.
