    @Akeo and Count Mike

This thread is some 45 pages long with 450 posts at the moment. It's in the Windows 10 News Announcements "Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10547" which means that anything goes. Because each build hangs around for only a few weeks, it's easier to discuss issues here in this one large thread rather than elsewhere. Did I make any sense?

I don't remember what we were talking about before I "hijacked" the thread with my Windows 10/Rufus issue. :) What I'm getting at is that we discuss all issues with this particular Build in this one thread. So, Count Mike didn't exactly hijack the thread any more than I did . . . he was just adding a different look at the whole flash/jump/USB drive issue. Which is normal for us.

FWIW, I've posted my log here in the thread (Post 448) because even though I turned the Log file into a PDF, it wouldn't upload to where you said to. At least that's one log you can look at to see if you can make sense out of it; I surely can't, which is quite normal. :)

And yes, I tend to get redundant with my explanations.

I appreciate your jumping in here and explaining things to us. I appreciate Count Mike also, who is one of our most helpful gurus. I'd just hate for you two to get off on the wrong foot just because of a misunderstanding.

Okay, then I'll just reiterate that, if you observe a weird behaviour that you think is caused by Rufus, you are strongly invited to open a new issue in its github issue tracker. This is what I really wish Count Mike had done, with regards to his unrelated issue, instead of replying to an explanation I had just given as to why Rufus behaves the way it does, in a manner that insinuated that this explanation was incorrect.

Now, with regards to your log, I'm afraid it wasn't really necessary. I obtained a very similar log myself, when testing Rufus on build 10457, which corroborates everything I have stated before about this build being broken with regards to allowing applications, or even the Windows USB ejection mechanism, obtain an exclusive lock to accomplish their tasks.

Also, as I mentioned, I did perform further analysis as soon as I had a build 10547 I could test with, to confirm that, if one modifies Rufus not to request a lock, the initial Could not get exclusive access to device \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2: [0x00000005] Access is denied. error would go away. So there's really nothing more I need with regards to being 100% positive that the USB locking bug from build 10457, which has been widely reported independently of Rufus usage, is the cause of the issue (and that the reason other apps don't seem to have this issue is because, unlike Rufus, they don't attempt to exclusively lock a drive before formatting).

Which means that, until Microsoft fixes this bug in a new build, the only issue I am still interested in is the one Count Mike reports to have observed on non 10547 builds, where his drive seemed to disappear when creating Windows 10 bootable USBs. Since he is the only person reporting it so far, I'm hoping that he will use the Rufus github tracker and provide enough data to troubleshoot it.

This is getting ridiculous, I told you that I'm not going to make it a career of troubleshooting Rufus and just my experience in this matter and nothing else.
I suggest you start a new thread about Rufus if you are so interested in it and taking offense if somebody reported problems with it. After all, this is a thread about 10547 and not about Rufus and will be obsolete as soon as new update comes or a bit after.
It's not the only way to make a bootable Windows installation.
I mentioned "bad" Lili by name just to show that same USB stick was just fine and usable to make valid OS installation from an ISO image albeit of Linux, and nothing else. Weather it's good, bad or ugly I have no vested interest in it just as much as in Rufus, they are just tools and as long as they (or any other) do the job required of them I'll use them and if not they will be dropped like a hot potato and I'll use something else.
So please, get off my case, I have nothing more to ad in this matter.

With all your statements, I consider you're being very rude! This is not a place for you to promote your points of business, but needed to be much more humble than you're acting. IMO!

Like CM says Rufus is [off topic here ] maybe start a new thread ?

I'm not about reading or caring about Rufus in *this thread * thats not why I've posted or replied to *this *thread what is so hard to undertand about *that*? ................FWIW persuing a Rufus discussion *here* is called thread hi jacking .

I dont use Rufus and I dont care either way ...... there are plenty of alternatives .

No, I'm not willing to spend my precious time to this cause or to argue with you as the same thing could be done another way.

Well, there's one thing you guys need to understand: I'll do whatever it takes to improve Rufus or try to figure out what causes an issue. That's the "price" of that free application you get: I do expect you to help me out. If I have to provoke people or hijack a thread to get the data I need to do so, because I can't get it through the official channels, I will. Whether that works is another story...

Well, that's enough. Make a thread if you feel like. I haven't seen any of a developer like you enjoys to fight for something like this and it basically won't change a thing. Good luck!
