Microsoft pushes Windows 10 upgrade to PCs without user consent

Well for some it certainly isn't being taken well! I imagine this will eventually see a negative ripple effect as more and more speak out against MS due to how this is being handled. When you intentionally or unintentionally try to force people into making changes you are bound for some "Tidal Waves"? headed your way sooner or later! You can only begin t o imagine what others would have to say if they should find the Windows Feedback option!

The windows update that installs the "get windows 10 app" is listed as important lol.

As far as seeing failed upgrade attempts that's from leaving the updates option set to full automatic and not switching that to the "notify me to schedule a restart" option!

Well the KB3035583 is strictly for the 10 app and nothing else. When clicking on that it will detect and indicate if the system hardwares will be compatible for 10 especially if the make and model board just happens to see 8, 8.1 updates available at the manufacturer's support site which then allows 10 to run with those! That wouldn't be a cause for any gaming issues!

Since I simply DID NOT Wait until Sept. 1st when the reserved copy notification was finally seen I could have used the option to disable the reservation seen in another TF guide! Get Windows 10 app - Cancel Reservation for Free Upgrade to Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

The download will automatically create the new reg key and DWord32 value automatically while I had already run into another blog on the web when gong to see what new 10 articles were out one day. But not only do you see the "DisableOSUpgrade" entry created the guide cover the Group Policy option as well!

So for anyone trying to avoid anything from happening whlie the 10 installer still does require some user interaction in order to complete the set up by making selections and entering PC name and user account type info to finish the final phase you won't be "bugged by 10" by way of updates any longer espeially when trying to preserve a previous version set up in a dual boot with 10!

Microsoft has a privacy problem.

It's not the one you've read about lately, though. Instead, Microsoft's biggest problem is that its customers don't understand its privacy policies, and a sensational press is all too eager to manufacture outrage over policies that don't exist.


In reality, Microsoft has been building privacy protections into its software products for years. Apple sparked a furor over ad blockers with the recent release of iOS 9, for example, but Microsoft built nearly identical tracking protection features into Internet Explorer 9 nearly five years ago.


The company felt confident enough in its privacy practices several years ago to launch an aggressive campaign against Google; the "Scroogled" campaign was widely considered a flop and quietly ended last year.

Given the long awareness of privacy in Redmond, then, the virulent attacks against Windows 10 this summer came as an unwelcome surprise. Critics have accused Windows 10 of spying on customers and collecting data for nefarious purposes, and those criticisms, despite a lack of supporting evidence, have persisted.

Just re-read one of your quotes.

Most of the time people never even bother to read up on the MS documentations being confused on things. And then you have MS allegedly being "Mysterious" about things at times or at least on how things get reported so you end up with a mystery either way you look at it! The person who tends to delve much deeper however looks for facts vs fiction.

Ok.. what options do the typical PC/Computer uses have?

1. They can use either 7 or 8.1, which is still a sold option.
2... Linux?? I doubt many will know how to convert to that type of OS and know which distribution to use.
3. OSx.. that is an option but the price point might be a deal breaker for the majority.

And don't get me wrong, the people with metered internet connections are not in a good place with the forced download updates.

Satelite or Disk web see charges by each page visited. That can get pricey at times but doesn't stop people from carrying laptops and tablets around. My first cell rang up a $267 bill one month calling out of state while most plans now offer free nationwide calling! So fewer and fewer places except mainly remote locations will see higher tabs on things.

8 as well as 8.1 is still sold while going out and buying any 7 media at this time is for the most a gone from shelves item! With 10 out now and Vista going bye bye early next year people looking for a new machine will be choosing between whatever few 7 machine are still floating around, 8 or 8.1, or whatelse beside spending a fortune on the "Fruit Company and wares"? Yet Boot Camp and Wine have grown in popularity over the last few years. That was simply because many simply didn't want 8! but are now trying 10 out.
