Hi Fred. . ."It has already cost MS a lot of customers , whether it's enough customers". . .:) Is this loss of customers a big problem or just something that happens each time Microsoft changes an OS. Is there a chance they will return or convert to one of the other really big OS's out there. . .oh wait. . .

Oh God, i should have known lol, anyway, the answer to your above question is it's on a much larger scale this time Lee.

The reasoning is the Privacy issue (yeah, we know you don't agree) but a lot of others do have big problems with it and it's not going to go away .

MS is being a lot more sneaky than in the past and even when you think you turned off the monitoring you really have not done it effectively and MS did that on purpose of course.

Reading the latest articles at major tech sites by editors who used to think MS can do no wrong have a very big problem with them this time and most say MS has clearly gone too far .

I see more "Win 7 will be my last Microsoft product "comments lately than i ever have with any previous OS release , that is the reason it's worse than in the past .

And even if EU intervene and charge MS with few billions, nothing will change.MS could afford this and get away with it.Nothing is as it seems anymore, times are a changing.Money and greed rules this planet now.

I doubt the EU would interfere much unless there was a general outcry across the board while you will notice that MS only mentions 10 being in some 192 countries out of how many across the entire globe? Obviously they have obstacles preventing their actions in certain places likely due to political reasons and where censorship takes place.

In China on the other they worked an agreement of substitution for Bing with Baudi a large Chinese search engine to be seeing some 500 million or more machines running 10! That was in the news this week as well as Obama's trade meeting with the Chinese president. China is becoming a leader in technologies at this day and age due to US and other companies investing there.

As for removing or disabling things everything has to go through the system registry unless completely stand alone! You can either nuke or change values there to get rid of if not simply disable unwanted items once you know the right keys! IF you are able to remove the reg values you then can turn around and simply locate and delete the program folder(s) for a particular app.

Here I simply unpinned Cortana from the Start tile area along with a bunch of other unwanted clutter to pin what I would be using and called it a day. I still have the Search button in view on the main task bar there along with a few other search apps plus the Task View which will work for having multiple desktops open. You didn't see Virtual Desktops on 8 or 8.1 much did you?

As for privacy concerns did you ever enabled "tracking cookies" or register XP? Oops! You already provided MS with your identity many, many moons ago! The most you can ever expect to come of that will be junk mail! That's the all too common real pain in der kister continuum to this day is getting newsletters and promos you never signed up for!

As for MS being resourced Mr. BG was an instant billionaire when first getting the Windows OS up and running across the board! As for the corporation they couldn't simply hand out free copies of 10 if they were seeing a strapped tight budget! They drop millions on charities for tax write offs!

I think at this time however the upgrade OS by way of the WU is something they are testing more then anything to see how things will go rather then simply being any intentional spy tool. And this is why feedback can be an important "keep you in check" option since if they start getting too much bad coming back at them they may just have to reconsider what next!

Hopefully someone will post the registry keys that need to be deleted in the future.

    Thanks for the info

All I can say is to keep tabs on the threads since eventually somebody having a problem with one will ask how to disable or remove something where someone else may have a solution. You may have to see one at a time "done in" so to speak but at least that will be an option that becomes available.

The other methods are best left to those who fully have a grasp on how to track things in the system reg without trashing the OS when it comes to disabling or seeing something gone for good! Always make a couple of System Restore Points before making any attempts there in case of any "UT OHs" or end up not being able to run 10! In fact as seen with the previous versions going back to Vista even you can download a shortcut for seeing this done you can even pin to the Start tiles or task bar! System Restroe Point Shortcut

Well , think i finally found why i can't go back to Win 7 after trying countless times and updates never working :

There is nothing wrong with your computers! The problem is a hopelessly inadequate Windows Update service. Likely it is overwhelmed sending millions of 5 gigabyte Win10 files to unwilling Win7 computers, using the same equipment and network that normally services you and I.

From Microsoft’s perspective, the updates you want are an extremely low priority. They do not want you updating Windows 7. They want you replacing it with Windows 10.

I have seen cases where the green bar continued overnight and finally found the updates, then spent many more hours downloading those updates. Stop trying to fix your computer. You are likely to make a mess of it for no benefit.

Trying to fix your computer is pointless, when the problem is your supplier. Sort of like taking a part your car's engine because it does not start, when the problem is the gas tank is empty.

Beware of Microsoft bearing gifts! Don't think for even an instant that we're being given Windows 10 mainly to benefit us. Microsoft is doing it for long term benefit to themselves. I'm very suspicious this "gift" will turn out to have been a trap.

I know a pc repair man who has been testing W 10 and he told me he believed MS would eventually do something to W7 and 8 so they would not work and you would have to use W 10?????????? I didn't believe that but now if feel it might be true. I am very glad I stopped doing updates.

Actually, i have been thinking thats going to be the case for quite some time now , i want 7 back , it actually has features i use , Win 10 has nothing i use .

This is just BS on the highest level , i don't even want to hear about how many like 10 because not many users are going back to 7 , reason for that is they are making it a nightmare to go back , you have to keep 10 . Microsoft has clearly shown they are not trustworthy to me .

After 6 reinstalls of 7 trying everything available to get updates to show let alone work there should be a way to get them , at this time MS is not allowing it to happen.

Funny 7 still seems to be running just as well as it has been now for some time following the removal of and the hide of the KB3035583 update! The others have been going on as always when I check on What's New? With XP now DOA as of early 2014 the next to go won't be 7 or 8 with 7 still being a "cash cow" due to it being a hugh success story! but the all too unpopular Vista gets the axe in 2016! For 7 that will be 2020 on the MS time table there and next month will be 7's Birthday Numero #6! I'll celebrate in 2016 for the Lucky 7s! "roll the dice for... it's a pair of 7s!" "I'l drink to that!"
