It could also depend on the persons mobile carrier when or if the device gets upgraded. Hope mine does so it's in line with my laptop. I've got the Lumia 830 running 8.1

The information comes from a post on Microsoft’s Lumia Facebook page (that you can see above) where a user asked when their Lumia 640 would be updated and someone from Microsoft responded with December. Of course, we don’t know what day during that month and if that means all devices will get it then as well, but at least we now know a time-frame for its release.
