    Hi there

all going a bit OT here

Yes there are loads of player type apps - but I think the OP wanted the Media centre - apart from other things was to handle TV cards and the like.

With my internet speed and package I don't actually need any terrestrial TV stuff - I can get what I want via streaming but for others who use TV tuners and the like then the WMC does in fact work if installed as suggested by Post nr 1 in the thread.

I know also there are alternatives to WMC but remember the OP is looking for the WMC not just an application that plays certain video / audio files.

    Cheers

Yes, I also no longer use WMC for TV but I do want it for its other streaming and Radio features. Any sites telling us how to install WMC on 10, that I have seen anyway, all state clearly that one should make a System Restore point before using the method they recommend. That way it can be undone simply by going back in time using System Restore.

A restore point or two is always advised with anything new and uncertain. For tv viewing here the tuner card simply cannot detect the incoming cable signal where I need to have a composite input from vcr or other device with tv tuner included. I have a refurbished vcr coming to replace a 20yr. old model that finally let go.

Ironically I also have the AVerMedia Media Center PCIe version of the PCI tv tuner/video capture card I am considering replacing if not going with a 75ohm to usb option. That wouldn't have the capture/scheduled recording options however but being a newer model have the cable recognition capability. The rest here is simply for dvd and video playback.

The OP was simply posting the news on the available method of seeing the WMC added onto 10 not looking for help there. My interest is whether or not that will work for the cable system here or not as well as checking that out with the PCIe card. Unfortunately even shutting down the av and it's firewall hasn't seen results. Something else seems to be preventing it from going on.

A problem with most cable providers signals now is that even the basic cable is digitalised necessitating at least that small descrambler box, usually provided free, but as I have my cable split so many ways already, I now only watch streaming stuff through Windows anyway...which I can watch on my TV by switching inputs.

dvd fab player and (unless you just missed a free copy of the DVD Fab pass key v8.0) plays every kind of DVD you can throw at it. The best, better than cyberlink ultra stuff (paid for that crap too and it does not work with win 10 even with their patch).
I'm using Cyberlink PowerDVD 15 Ultra in Windows 10 and it works perfectly for DVD and BluRay.

The cable here is split up in four ways just for one for tv, internet, phone, and the two boxes one being a DVR unit. The other is the basic tuner box with the 75ohm output I had and will again tuesday have plugged into a vcr and out by RCA phono plugs to the tuner card. When trying the cable straight into the 75ohm connector on the card itself that apparently was intended for an analog antenna not for any digital input.

I couldn't the exact model vcr again that lasted for about 20 good years of use! So I don't have any complaints there. Bought two and the first went back in 2013 replaced by a dvd recorder when no one had vhs with tuners! The AVerMedia Media Center card was also XP compatible but took the paid subscription tv not cable signal with that tried out as well.

Need internet tv service with WMC apparently since that also failed to accept the cable signal back when seen on Vista and later opted out for 7. The message on the screen then showed "need paid subscription" or service at the time.

When trying PowerDVD out back in the XP to Vista days that had been a great little player. I am not surprised to hear that Cyberlink subsequently added Blu Ray support since back then that the rather new media technology only having been out for a few years.(First introduced 2000-2002) I see you don't get that much with the Standard version but need at least the Pro version to worth it for the price.

Something is preventing it from going on here no matter what method I try. Even with the av and firewall shutdown the command prompt windows flash I reboot and nothing!
