    Hi,
Do you all still believe the size of the partition is the real issue here ?
There is one thing you could do
    1. Open explorer and check if Partition 4 has the drive letter (R:)
Only if yes, run cmd (admin) mountvol R: /d
    2. run reagentc /disable and wait for a minute or 2
    3. run sfc /scannow
    4. run reagentc /enable
    5. Press and hold <Shift> and <Start> Restart/Reboot and wait till it reboots into Recovery Environment
    6. Start normally and run the update again

This situation is appalling. If it does not supply an automatic fix to cure or prevent this problem, Microsoft will have effectively disabled Windows for its many home non-tech Windows 10 users. Almost all of us do not use BitLocker but Microsoft still stubbornly tries to force KB5034441 on us.

People, especially old people, will have their lives ruined by the effects of KB5034441 on us now that is almost impossible to not do many things online. That includes me. This is perhaps an inevitable result of making updates compulsory.

The solution is simple. KB5034441 should be withdrawn and then modified so that it cannot mess up Windows 10 systems which do not need it. Why was KB5034441 not able to check if BitLocker is in use on their Windows 10 devices? I am amongst those users.

Would the Microsoft command script even work to fix this problem as I believe it's probably expecting to find the recovery partition immediately following the Windows 10 partition?
There are many things to do! If you use the Partition Wizard you can ruin your system as well! So my first question is: Why do you need such a big C-Partition? (857 GB !) In a professional environment they are usually appr. 150 GB.
All steps can be done by CMD-Commands. Easily!

From what I understand the recovery partition not only has to be bigger, but also has to be "after" the Windows partition. I believe Microsoft mentioned this somewhere.

This is an older pic, which is why it says 600MB for the Recovery partition. Now of course, it needs to be larger.
Leave it to MS to try and fit 10 pounds of update into a 6 pound hole.

I did ask before but was very poor at doing so so will ask if my conclusions as right. I have an old laptop (only used for basic photo editing when away) originally with W8. As far as I know no partition has ever been deleted but there is no recovery partition. My solution has been to hide the update as I can see both I have no idea how to create a recovery partition and no need of it as its clearly never been used (or created when upgrading from 8 to 10 all those years ago).

    @john7
    cmd (admin)
    diskpart
    sel disk 0
    create partition primary size=1024 ID=0x27
    format quick fs=ntfs label="Recovery"
    assign letter="R"
    exit

    Your Recovery Partition is there!

    Thank you for that @Pentagone

For now I'll wait a few days but in the case I proceed like you mentioned, I'll update the thread accordingly.

N.B. I do not like "playing" with partitions... bit scared here

Note: a Recovery partition should not have a drive letter.
Assigning one makes it visible in file explorer- which is fine if you have good reason to do something with it and know what you're doing, and then remove the drive letter afterwards.

One way to see what's in it (but read-only) without assigning a letter is to use e.g. Minitool Partition Wizard, rt click it, click Explore.

And yes, the Recovery partition should be AFTER the Windows partition. Normally one only sees a leftover Recovery partition from an old installation of Windows as the first partition, and also a newer Recovery partition after the Windows partition, created during a feature update (upgrade).
