Pity you didn't even read the summary (let alone the article).

If you are going to Linux don't use opensuse gnome. I think it could have a tracking but I am not sure. A similar privacy screen popped up when I was trying opensuse gnome. Opensuse kde or other opensuse desktops didn't pop up. Note there is an issue with opensuse mint, maybe they will have that issue fix with the next release(Leap). Also, I think opensuse is going to do the same thing Microsoft is doing with updates they call it a rolling release. I think the rolling release starts with their leap version 42.x
    OpenSUSE Mint?
    Perhaps you meant OpenSUSE MATE.

I am sure you can find other distro that won't do a rolling release or have privacy issue. I think that why Linux mint (Ubuntu based), Lubuntu, Xubuntu, all came about. They wanted more privacy then Ubuntu itself has.
Arch Linux has used rolling updates for a long time (my friend has been using it for ~10 years now).

The same general idea applies to most distro variants; "we can make a better distro than this."

I get the impression that many users left Ubuntu because of Unity and GNOME3.
I know I did (I switched to Linux Mint).

KDE have also apparently decided to copy MS' modus operandi regarding features.
When the developers noticed that most users were disabling Disc Indexing, they used the MS W8 Start Screen solution; they removed the disable option.

Updates are so easy to just Shut OFF, why all the angst, over them causing problems?
Not in W10 (unless you mean ripping the network cable out).

    Ban these threads!!!

I'm sure someone will wind up complaining they were insulted and have this thread closed as well. I personally think all these type thread should be banned because they ultimately just turn into a *itch fest with people complaining to the mods. And titled threads like these are designed to do nothing but bring flame wars.

    My two cents.

And this is why you completely turn off Windows Updates, shut down the service, and patch your system manually...
Microsoft, you will never get that stuff installed on my machines...

to better serve the windows platform to bring updates and fixes to our machines... nothing to do with spying as it were... I said before if you don't want to be "spied upon" switch to a local user account.... turn Cortana off ... delete your search history from your Microsoft account page... uninstall bing toolbar if installed... don't use the continuum feature... or modern apps.... that way you'll be on a windows 7 style pc without the onedrive backup utility and all the other apps that require your Microsoft account........

Any member here is permitted to have their own opinion. That is what happens in a forum. I am no longer on 7 so I cannot speak to what updates it is getting but there are steps to take to prevent it as posted.

I was told by a PC repair man that eventually MS will send updates to Windows 7 and XP that will make them unusable. I have my doubts about that, if that does happen I think people would march on MS and raise h***. I am not worried about my privacy I am worried about MS's power. Why is it so important to MS to do what they are doing? I have read reason all the reasons in here, but I think there is more to it than that. When my W7 doesn't work I will buy one with W10 because I will have no choice in the matter, but as long as I have a choice I will use my W 7 and my laptop which I upgraded to W 10, then set back to W 8.1.

I do not believe that for a second. Windows 7 has 5 more years of support from MS. As for XP, no one should be using it-it is not safe.

    Microsoft would never do that.

Microsoft would need either a computer buy back program and/or a buy back operating system buy back before disabling windows 7 or xp. The reason once you buy the computer, you expect the operating system for the life of your computer. Remember, some computers can't be upgraded to windows 10, 8.1, 8 or even windows 7.

My first thought when I was told that was....they could never keep that a secret, someone always talks.

They have never ever done it in the past so why would they start doing it now? The backlash from doing something like that would be horrendous. It isn't going to happen.

Yes, because PC repair men know all about the intimate nefarious plans of MS. This is absurd on the face of it, rank paranoia.
