I upgraded my main rig to 11 and after several days I really couldn't see the point (for me). So went back to 10.

My laptop is running 11 and again cannot see the point of 11 over 10. Obviously there are things under the hood with 11 but having both systems with secure boot, MS Defender, Malwarebytes, etc then I suppose it may just come down to a plain old fashioned aesthetic view.

Speed wise - no difference in my case.

So I'll just stay with 10 for now and see what 'goodies' (if any) MS bring to the table in the future but it sure looks (in my eyes anyway) that it's just a marketing exercise for the hardware manufacturers.
I wonder how many laptops/notebooks people that have Intel's Gen 9 processor or less, including their PC notebooks, like mine. Am I going to replace any of mine, so I can have Win 11? No, for GENERAL use. I do have one 15" with Intel's Gen 10, but, do I need to upgrade to 11 for general use? No. My current 3 PC's that are 11" notebooks, have WIN 10, version 21H1. My other 15" PC does not have the right Intel processor and is Gen 8. I'm sure the PC mfg's are happy with Microsoft, long story short. lol

The cutoff is at Gen 8 - Gen 8 and above qualifies, Gen 7 does not.

That's not going to stop folks 'upgrading' to 11 if they wish and plenty have done so with non-compliant machines with 11 updates still working. No doubt MSoft could go nuclear on the updates but so far....

Compliant or not, the upgrade is always free because W10 and W11 use the same digital licence for activation.

You need to be aware of the risk that at some future date MS may stop supplying updates to non-compliant machines. So far non-compliant machines are getting all the updates, but that may change. You should make a system image of your W10 install before attempting the upgrade, just in case you may wish to restore it later.

After the registry hack - go and download the MS 11 ISO. Right click and mount it then run setup all from within Explorer. It should then upgrade your machine keeping all files and settings in place although that is not a guarantee but worth a try.

If all goes well you will see your regular login screen and the normal Windows.old folder. You then have 10 days to decide whether to keep 11 or revert back to 10. Irrespective, as many have mentioned, wise to make a full system image of your current setup just in case.

Okay and thank you. If there is a possibility that MS would stop Win 11 updates on non compliant PC's, then I will just stay with 10, until they no longer support, version 21H1. I appreciate your info!

That is the safest option. W10 21H2 is released today, with the next feature update after that due in November 2022. W10 is supported until 14th Oct 2025.

Yesterday after I went back to Windows 10 from Windows 11 I got the Windows 11 invitation again. This time I clicked on "Stay on Windows 10 for now". That way the message will go away at least for now.

Today I just got the message to install Windows 10 21H2. I am doing that now and hope that I will have a better experience than I had with Windows 11 21H2.

Yes, I know that. I've done it on my 7th Gen. I was simply pointing out the cutoff since it seemed like the poster I was replying to thought it was 9th Gen. And, of course, MS can pull the plug any time they want...
