My Surface Pro 3 upgraded automatically to the post-GUI restart button on its own. The remaining portion completed without difficulty as well. I did find 5 (!) obsoleted/orphaned packages in need of cleanup using "DISM ... /analyzecomponentstore" after this upgrade. But I'd been on vacation and hadn't been cleaning up lately, so I'm sure that's in part from prior package accumuluation.
    Cheers!

    Thanks anyway.

But like I said, if you don't know what you are doing...

Yes, I know. I use it downloads ISO files all the times, but not for CUs.

Install initially failed twice with 0x800f0990 error. Ran SFC and then DISM series (components were repairable), but still no go. Deleted KB5004296 install files from SoftwareDistribution\Download and tried again with a fresh download. Failure!

Did you try to install lone cab file?
Yes -- and it does the same thing. Does prep to 100%, says to restart, and when I click that, I get the error.

What an absolute mess trying to install this Cumulative has been.....five failures.....ran scannow.....ran dism.
Both supposedly repaired faulty files....Troubleshoot not available....WTF.

I had this issue also with 1110. The only thing left to do was update with ISO. I don't remember if I tried Shawn's WU repair tool which works quite well with certain issues.

Update to 1149 using ISO worked without any problems.
