Read moreMicrosoft is already in the middle of a very complex plan to bring more affordable devices running modern Windows to the market, so it’s no surprise that the upcoming Windows 9 operating system is going to be part of this new plan.
The LinkedIn profile of Oleg Krogius (registered account needed), software developer at Microsoft, reveals that the Redmond-based software giant has already started work on making Windows 9 better for low-cost devices, which could be a sign that the company is trying to the make the software run smoother on affordable tablets and PCs.

Is it possible dire economic forecasts forced Microsoft's hand?
After all, if you need new -and expensive-hardware to run an Operating System, why bother...
I like the idea that a new OS requires new/better hardware. It's how I justify the purchase of a new computer to my wife :)
But ... I also need one that will run on the old Dells and HPs that are donated to our Thrift Store.

My guess is they want to sway people from buying Chrome Books and Android tablets.
