A more robust method to kill news feed:
    Code:
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Feeds" /v "IsFeedsAvailable" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f
    Code:
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Feeds\FeedRepositoryState" /v "FeedEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f
    1=ON, 0=OFF.

Setting the first one at <<1>> triggers the second parameter. Double clicking the news dedicated space on the taskbar, restores the feed.

Uninstall? Not there yet, but this method does the work by blocking outbound traffic.

No icon, no feed, no uninstall. A no nothing reg tweak.

You can remove Cortana, that will render News inactive, you will get just a dead inactive icon.
    Code:
    takeown /s %computername% /u %username% /f "%WINDIR%\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\SearchApp.exe"
    icacls "%WINDIR%\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\SearchApp.exe" /inheritance:r /grant:r %username%:F
    taskkill /im SearchApp.exe /f
    del "%WINDIR%\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\SearchApp.exe" /s /f /q

Macrium says, that is corrupted as it did in my case, but EasyUS worked, you can try it out.

But wouldn't this damage the installation and set off dism integrity checks?

That depends on what you want, a process taking 200MB RAM even if you do not use it?

They are both great Apps; it is only a matter of choice. As a matter-of-fact, I use both of them. Most members in TF have a penchant for MR and I have been using it for a long time and never incurred any problem.

Now, that your Start Menu is working, as @Caledon Ken already asked: is your MR working now?. I would try to run the DISM command-lines first thing:

    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth
    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth
    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
    sfc /scannow
    dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
    dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

The last one "StartComponentCleanup" is run only if the previous one "AnalyzeComponentStore" gives the green light, i.e., "Yes" as you may already know.
