Don’t we all? In fact, Windows 8 has already started to change rules of the games, both on tablets and notebooks, and Windows 9 looks set to continue the good work.
Since the next full version of the operating system is expected to come with an overabundance of new features and options, industry experts believe it has what it takes to convince more users to install it on their devices — or buy new devices for that matter.
I believe it will too. It works good now, i'd imagine if it was even better, as in fixed the disconnect between the ui's, that it'd be great. With it running on everything, they have a chance if marketed correctly to make a big impact.
They must execute flawlessly:
W9/WP9/RT into one cohesive experience.
Release Office Gemini.
Introduce a compelling high end hardware phone and tablet utilizing the updated ui.
Allow messaging and calling to work on all devices.
Update Surface Pro 4 with Broadwell.
Allow Onedrive to be used as a locker for streaming music and videos to all devices including Xbox One.
My concerns are that it will supposedly have separate interfaces depending whether it is desktop, laptop or tablet..
my question is... if I have a tablet, would I have to purchase a tablet version, and if I have a desktop do I have to purchase a desktop version. OR, would the different interfaces still be available as they are in Windows 8?
I would think it will be one version/image that can tailor the install to the type of device its being installed on. Splitting it up into different SKU's would just complicate things and confuse consumers looking to buy it off of the shelf at a Retail outlet.

What if you have a hybrid? That seems to be the question being asked now. Docked its a laptop with keyboard, undocked its a tablet with touch screen. If it switches on the fly that would be impressive. In any case hopefully there are options to set what you want and if you want it to toggle back and forth. What would really suck is if you had to decide one way or the other during the install and were stuck with that choice after that. If you had to reinstall if you changed your mind that would be bad.

They already cut the WP team after purchasing Nokia and gave that responsibility to the OS development team. I'd guess that that department is subdivided into closely knitted teams working together for one common purpose of creating OSs with very similar features for a similar experience. So now they have a platform of similar OSs to run across different devices. Full OS editions, RT, WP, Server, and Xbox. WP may be eliminated to run RT on phones.
Having had my WP8/8.1 I'm noticing that whatever is developed for the phone is rumored to be included in W9, such as Cortana. We already know that the Start Screen and Apps Screen was ported over. So, their goal is different OSs with similar experience. The only way I can see do expedite that is with Modern/Metro.

If they go that route IMHO it just complicates things, especially if there is a 9 and 9 Pro. 9 Tablet, 9 Pro tablet, 9 Desktop, 9 Pro Desktop, 9 hybrid , 9 Pro hybrid? Different product codes for each? Plus Media Center? What if you bought 9 Desktop but want to switch to 9 Tablet? Can you upgrade/downgrade? To me the better option is to let the consumer decide during the install. And even better switch it after, if you don't like how it works. Also, if your buying a laptop or desktop with a touch screen which version should be installed by the OEM? Anyway its mostly rumors at this point so it is going to be interesting when the consumer preview finally appears.
