I didn't mean disappear but it's not going to be the main focus of MS anymore. Yes, they will perf0rm necessary updates but no more major changes. MS makes updates to all OS's from Vista on but not major updates. Don't forget.. MS would love it if W8 just totally disappeared.

    Yes, I'm sure they would.

But if you think about, Windows 8 was and is a good OS. It's stable, I haven't had any issues.

A stable OS, in my opinion, is a great OS.

I will admit that things didn't run very well for me on 8.1, but once they updated that everything ran smoothly.

I think the only reason people h8te it so much is because they can't except change and then for some reason they don't go back to 7, instead they just gripe about the UI on 8.

It's been a pain for some with factory OEM installs of 8.0. Windows update to enable the upgrade to 8.1, then the Store Upgrade to 8.1. Then back to Windows Update for update 1. And now a mini update, or 2 or 3 maybe. A crash and burn anywhere in the chain and its a pita. Especially if they didn't create any recovery media. If Microsoft wants those users to keep going to Windows 9 they should offer an ISO download with the new key. Or some built in function to create real install media, not just recovery media. If they did that I think they would get a lot more takers.

Hmm, mine was actually a factory OEM...I had a HP Envy x2. (Amazing computer!!)

But, thank you. No one has pointed out any of these issues. I never did encounter any of those, except the updates, that did get annoying.

Like I said, I had a lot of trouble with 8.1. I ended up going back to 8, because 8.1 would freeze up, the tiles became unresponsive, my browser would crash, and sometimes the entire system would crash!

I really liked Windows 8.1 and don't need anything better right now for production, but I'm really excited to put my hands on Nine bits !

    Hi

I'm almost ready to upgrade to 8.1 for the second time.
Last time I had sound issues that I couldn't solve related to my Creative drivers.

I now have a factory DVD with the correct drivers for my computer so I'm going to try and upgrade and then back-grade the drivers to ones that work.

I've tried the latest drivers from Creative and they don't work on my computer.

But with Windows 9 test so close I may just wait and dual boot it with Windows 8 if it will allow you to do that.

That would give my the option to work out the sound issues in Windows 9 without losing the capability of undistorted sound when I need it.

I dual booted Windows 7 and and XP, and Windows 7 and 8, when the beta versions came out.

I hope that they will let you download an ISO and install it as a second OS on it's own partition, I'd hate to just jump into a new OS with no option to switch to the old one when I needed to.

I had issues when I did the store upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1 on my laptop with the original factory OEM install. My WIFI would cut in and out and in and out, same form my wireless trackball. I tried a lot of things that didn't work. I eventually just did a clean install of 8.1. I wasn't an MVP then so I had to hunt up an ISO on bit torrent. Now that I am an MVP and have access to clean Microsoft ISO's, I'm good to go. I did the same thing to my wife's laptop, I ditched the factory install for a clean install of 8.1. No issues doing it that way and it gets ride of the factory installed bloat ware. With any luck I'll still be an MVP when the final version of 9 comes out and I'll get an ISO for that too.

I also had WiFi issues on my tablet when going from 8.0 to 8.1. Never could get it to work so went back to 8.0.

Updated to 8.1 on my laptop and a friends, both upgrades had problems. But got those sorted out. I am not at all excited about Windows 9, actually rather dreading it, I fear it will be a let down. What Microsoft needs to do is focus more on the App store and worry less about the eye candy.

Why do you say they should focus on the App Store?

Last I checked, it was doing well.

I have to agree. I would want performance and security improvements first. Then some GUI modifications and then if needed store mods. For me the App Store/Apps are the least of my concern. I only use about 4/5 presently and I don't think I'll ever need more.
