So why is this update only showing in optional? Are we going to have to go there to get certain updates now or it will eventually show up when you "check for updates" like normal?

Because Optional Update mean M$ would like you to beta test the update (optionally of course) before they make it a public release (because they fired / laid off their QA testers - you can Google that to confirm). I have not installed it on my main PC for this reason. M$ fanboys may of course disagree with my assessment - but then you have to Google for yourself.
Free insurance policy: Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect Please take advantage if not already making full backups.
It's bloody amazing to me that Windoze works on the many combinations of platforms/hardware and many apps and mods people have.
I'm sure telemetry data is the new AI QA, so please keep it enabled like I do - at least minimal/basic telemetry
Too bad M$ won't share the data they have like the % of PCs running Windows 10 2004 with no issues. People see complaints about Windows 10 2004 and it spreads like wildfire to not upgrade.
Thank goodness for backup software like Macrium Reflect which takes much of the risk out of upgrading.
@steve108 - Good old macrium....don't upgrade a damn thing without it!
Saved my bacon so many times when my curiosity to try the the 'new shiny thing' bit me in the a$$.
Just completed a backup actually, just in case my curiosity for todays update strikes again.....I'm an insider using my main machine, which I know isn't smart, but I use my PC all day every day so it's the best way to test updates.
I should buy Macrium one of these days. They have earned it.
I've been using Paragon's Hard Disk Manager for years, now version 17, with great results. Always do an OS partition backup after a successful update and occasionally restore from it. Gotta have those backups!
