Ah! I see this is in the optional category. That make sense! These updates used to be listed as a normal update, but never got installed, and sometimes just disappearing altogether. I like this change.

Yes, it's a vast improvement. It's only a temporary reprieve however. It will be subsumed into next Patch Tuesday's CU.

I'm having problems with this update:

Windows Controlled Folders does not show the recent block history. The relevant window initially shows "no recent actions" and shuts down a few seconds later. If I disable and then re-enable the ransomware protection (Controlled folder access) the blocked items do show up, but only once. I have to do it again in order to show blocked items.

Also Dell's SupportAssist doesn't show any available driver updates.

    Hi there
MEGA FAIL / DEFECT for me with this one

all my external SSD's connected via SATA-->USB3 / USBC / SATA adapters fail -- "Invalid directory" ???? --these are formatted bog standard NTFS systems.

When all these disks are connected to a Linux NAS or the 20H2 (the Dev preview version) absolutely no problem whatsoever.

Cannot use this version until this USB thing is sorted

I tried with 3 different adapters -- SABRENT, ASMHT and a really old USB2 one --no joy on any of them and tested with 3 different SSD's . So sufficient combos to show it wasn't either a specific disk or a specific piece of hardware --I'm an Engineer at heart and by training so I do believe in fairly rigourus testing of as many sensible combinations as possible before signing something off as fit for release.

C'mon Ms don't you ever TEST this stuff on relatively bog standard equipment before releasing out of the door. Using external SSD's for cloning Disks, backups or just copying files surely must be so mainstream now that it's BORING even to mention them.

I'd have expected if there were to be a defect problem with external SSD's then using the DEV version (19042) could possibly have shown one but surely not the 19041 version which is supposed to be almost at RTM stage.

I think some of your project managers at Ms should see what the Military does when one of their ops goes "F.U.B.A.R" !!!!

(just don't put me in the same room with a decent Rifle !!!!!).

BTW rolling back to 540 or whatever -- is OK so something on this build - at least on my system has really gone bonkers. (And I use so little on Windows and rarely poke around in registry etc that if I'm having problems there's probably a lot more aggro out there for the "mass updates" when the general public get it).

I'm not anti Ms - but something seems IMO to be seriously wrong in 3 main areas --1) testing of build, 2) any sort of regression testing and 3) the whole project management processes. The poor developers who are usually told to work on XXXX aren't normally involved in the final "System testing" so their stuff might well work "in isolation" but maybe they should be as integration testing as anybody who'se ever done any of it knows only too well is when things can start going mega pear shaped. That's an Ms management issue though to sort out.

Maybe Ms management competance should be viewed with the same scepticism as sensible people look at external consultants from B/S places like Accenture etc -- " They lend you an Umbrella when the Sun is shining -- but want it back as soon as it starts raining".

Update -- reformatting the SSD on the NAS via GPARTED and creating new partition tables allowed the SSD to work again on Windows --but I shouldn't have to do this !!! -- copied thee data first to the NAS before wiping SSD's, !!

Sorry folks -- But my feelings -- English I'm afraid will have to wait :

    Ţvílíkur hundamatur af óreiđu

But it's about Dogs and Dinners !!!

    Cheers

I installed both updated offered (one regular KB4571765) and the optional KB4577063.

KB4577053 (the one that updates winver to 19041.546) caused random failures in the taskbar, File Explorer was problematic, and experienced instabilities in GPU performance. I am running an RTX 3080, so at first I thought it was because this is a new GPU and perhaps driver issues, but didn't have any before this update and went back to 100% stable after it was removed.

I reported my findings through the insider channel.
Perhaps this is something specific to RTX 3000 series card, but either way this is not a viable update right now for me.

    Hi there
For loads of people IMO this is NOT a viable build --in spite of the fact it was being suggested as almost "RTM".

I'd suggest RMA it is more appropriate.

Amazing when the DEV / Beta one (20H2 19042) seems much more stable and I for one have has absolutely no issues with it.

Unlike a lot I do have the luxury of having a load of gear, a load of hard HDD space and in Iceland one of the fastest Internet services on the planet so it's easy for me to test a whole slew of different builds where I can also test a lot of hardware and software too.

I really feel for those not so fortunate and I'm really want to know if there's anything we can do to improve Ms's QC. I'm not anti Ms or of the "Evil Empire" persuasion -- Ms has done more good for home computing than any other company I can think of -- but it really needs to seriously get its project management and QC OK.

They've mode a big bo-bo with this update so far -- "back to the drawing board".

    Cheers

    @jimbo45 - agreed.
How was KB4571765 for you? No problems? Or uninstalled also? I will run another few days and if no issues will leave it be.

I removed it - - restored via Macrium Free to previous version will wait to see what happens next.

Meanwhile happily using the "Dev build " (20H2 19042) even though it's not in any way meant to be considered as a build ready for RTM.

Who knows what's happening inside Ms these days !!!

    Cheers

But was it causing issues, or just wanted to go back to a previously saved image?

What's the point. It will be released in a couple of weeks.
I 'll take your advice - I don't need to create problems for myself.
