OK lets see if I got his right?
One option for 8.0 users is to upgrade to 8.1 with update 1 though the Windows Store for free. And then do it all again to get 8.1 with update 2 for free. But no free Windows 9?
The other option is to pay a "small" fee to go from 8.0 straight to 8.1 with update 2. And that fee also gets you Windows 9 for free when its released?

Its so confusing it has to be true.
Just bought the Windows 8.1 Full Version key. I'm confused, will I be eligible for the upgrade?

Everything is still in the rumor stage at this point but I would say yes. Any body already running 8.1 with update one gets update 2 for free. It only gets confusing if your running 8.0 and want to go to 8.1 with update 2.

I don't get it, why would update 2 cost anything at all, is it a new OS like 8.1 or is it just an update?

The rumor is when you upgrade to update 2, you get new keys. If true that tells me its actually more like Windows 8.2, a new OS. The way I read it is.

If true, then it is just plain stupid. Windows 8 has become a total waste of time. I am beginning to think Microsoft has become a play ground for the mentally challenged weirdo's.

So from now on every 6 months, one's software will become obsolete.
    8.0 obsolete
    8.1 obsolete
    8.2 obsolete
    8.3 obsolete
    9.0 ????????

It is more like an old "Twilight Zone" episode

    Microsoft obsolete

So when are you switching to Linux or Android?
It's really no different than say running Windows 7 with no Service Packs installed.
You can also stay on Windows 8.0 if you want, it is still supported and receives updates. Support will run out in the near future but at present as far as I know it hasn't.

My friends want me to switch to Apple, I had never considered it, BUT (with Microsoft being so wacko), I think my next purchase will be an iPad or Nexus 7, just to test the waters. I may like them.

I think Ubuntu has a touch version, and may support Android, that would be interesting.
