New Windows update recognizes for the first time MB as the main protection on your PC. You set Defender to occasionally scan
the PC for viruses. Before I set this I couldn't play a game Grim Dawn, the game was crashing after 2/3 minutes.

How many are having their Windows 10 PCs hijacked by the imposition of Feature Update 2004? I was at a friend's last night and she was pleased with herself that she had successfully paused and then resumed the monthly updates as I requested her to. Her smile vanished when I realised that she had actually had 2004 foisted on her. The recovery procedure is not to be taken lightly, especially by a non tech. I will restore a two week old system backup (after I have copied her data files to safety). A new feature update means that I must set Mandatory ASLR and Bottom-up ASLR to On by Default. Nanny Microsoft knows best or so she thinks. The apps I use or install have no problem with these ASLR settings.

Many users are being messed up by Nadella and his gang and many of those users will be businesses. I am yet to experience a nasty surprise with Ubuntu LTS. I am also content that Windows 7 can no longer brick my next most ancient desktop. End of Life means a peaceful online life on Windows 7 (no online banking, etc., of course).

You now have to positively accept feature updates- they don't happen automatically.

If applied within the last 10 days, your friend can 'Go back to the previous build'.

If 2004 is running without problems (the repeated trim of SSDs can be blocked by changing the details of the relevant scheduled task) then.. well.. fine.

And of course, I might hope that regular participants here are persuading people they know of the value of routinely using disk imaging. (Which offers another way to revert, if less desirable).

No hijacking happening here, Dalchina. I've had to accept all updates for awhile (my memory doesn't tell me exactly how long) now. So far, I haven't had any update happen unless I clicked to start . . .

Looks like my Trim is enabled. Is there a reason I should block it? Computer seems to be running just fine with 2004 (19041.388).

I use Macrium Reflect paid version for a weekly full and daily differential back up of my computer. Ain't no way I'd leave my system open to chance.

Hi, this video - a bit drawn out- explains the trim issue quite clearly, and a way to stop it.

Thank you, Dalchina! Very informative, and exactly what I needed. Silly Trip was running ten times a day!

Very well done video. I changed mine to just turn off the C: drive which is my SSD and leave the other drives active. Will see how that works.

Since this is a dual boot system, I think I turned it off on both C: & D:. Guess I should go back in and look this morning.

Edit: Yup, I did it right . . . Optimization is turned off.

" Edit: Yup, I did it right . . . Optimization is turned off. "...........imho ; you do it right by disabling the "optimize drive '-service also , setting it on "manual" for safety !
This way you can always make a manual trim of your SSDs , without "extra " MS-trims ...........

I can manually optimize my drive by clicking on "Optimize". I just did it, and the "service" is still turned off.

As you can see, Drive C: has just been optimized while Drive D: hasn't. I highlight the drive I want to optimize manually, then click on Optimize and Voila!

More than one way to skin a cat in Windows! Now if I could just figure out what to do with Lucy's skin. Oh! I know! I'll put it back on her! She'll appreciate that, I'm sure.

BTW, I followed the instructions Dalchina posted. Flawless!
