Windows 9 is Microsoft’s next big project in the OS industry, with some people close to the development plans indicating that it’s very likely to debut in early 2015.

But a new report released by Russian Windows leaker WZor and coming via myce.com claims that Windows 9 is the first operating system in Microsoft’s modern lineup that will actually come with a freeware license, which would basically allow users to install it without paying for a license.

However, this isn’t the first time when Microsoft is believed to be working on a freeware version of Windows, so don’t take this for granted until the company really confirms it.
    The rest here.

It’s almost impossible to see Microsoft offering a Windows version at no cost without a catch that would bring back some cash, not only because this is the company’s flagship product, but also because the software giant is in the end just a business that needs to stay on profit.
The bottom line is Microsoft is in business to make a profit and I personally would rather pay for Windows 9, than have to deal with a free OS that comes with a catch.

Free OS, but all the tools you pay for? I still like to purchase something, put it on my machine, own it, and decide what it does. A Guy

I can imagine how it's like to use all the features of Windows 9... "To use this feature, go to WinStore to buy and download it." Then you realize it's useless and you can't return it. It will rip you off a dollar at a time.

There is a lot of noise on the web about a Win9 that needs a full time internet connection but we all know how far Xbox 1 went with that.

Past experience seems to have no effect on MS. To paraphrase Einstein, "If we do the same thing over and over, something different will happen."

Microsoft is also rumored to release the next gen of Metro interface with Windows 9, however, specific details are yet unknown. Wzor also suggests that Microsoft may offer Windows 9 for free, but it is still being discussed. Earlier rumors also suggested that Microsoft is working on a completely cloud-centric OS following the trend of Chrome OS. Windows Cloud would require an Internet connection for full functionality, but offline mode will help you do the usual stuff with basic functions.

I don't know if it's just me but I'm a bit concerned with the way Microsoft is heading with their OS, I can sort of understand how they went with 8 and trying to capture the mobile audience (although it was terribly executed with how it affected desktop users) but an OS that is 100% cloud based? That sounds bloody awful to me.

If that is the way we're forced to go then maybe I will have to look at alternative operating systems once support for 7 is dropped.
