I don't doubt it at all , you just got to tinker with your system until you find that perfect point where everything just works well , easier said than done though.

The computer never turns off or shut down so i don't know what it is , i would probably have a very different take on Win 10 after a clean install.

Have you considered trying to download 10 from another system like your father's? Once you have the download in ISO form you can copy if not see it written right away and take with you if not making a usb stick up or burn to dvd on the other machine.

Now was that any bookmarks you forgot to mention where there? If you don't tell people that you have added things for them to look at how are they are supposed to know that you put them there? hhmmmm.... With all too many people it's simply common practice to walk them through what they need to know.

As for the overall experience with 10 so far I can easily live with 10 a lot faster then I could ever have with 8! I didn't get the chance to look 8.1 over which from what I understood was a definite improvement! And now we have 10 which seems to be what we needed to replace or coincide with 7! That would be following a line of progressive changes. Running two machines with 10 set up in dual boots with 7 has given me a real good look at how to compare the two versions and so far despite the somewhat carry over of the Metro tiles it's following the line far more then 8 or 8.1.

Performance wise they are tight with 10 being slightly larger and the concern that MS will again need to watch out as they themselves realized with Vista that Windows was then getting too large! "Bloat bloat bloat bloat got ta watch ya out for tat bloat bloat bloat bloat!"

It could be worse - both hard disks in this laptop, although a decent size, are only 5400rpm.

It snaps awake pretty quickly from sleep mode (around 3 seconds) but can take well over a minute to boot from cold. I mainly put the machine to sleep rather than shut it down anyway, so slow booting isn't an issue.

I'm not too fussed, because I do use the storage (1.5TB combined, over 4 partitions - two each drive), but am going to shout the old girl an SSD in the near future and purchase another external drive to compensate for the loss of storage.

So...after installing it..noticed it's very laggy
Also programs and games use more RAM and processor...which it's freakin weird.
While playing world of tanks, the CPu usage is at 30% max in windows7 while in windows 10 it goes up to 50% or even more
Idle(meaning just after booting) - Ram - 20% usage in win7 while in win10 35%...I'm sory but it's nowhere as fast as win7 for me...

Mine shows 0-1% CPU usage and 15% of my 8 GB of RAM in use. The CPU use in games is about the same as it was before the upgrade maybe slightly more. The two things being a little higher are normal. Windows 10 caches more of the OS into RAM than 7, or even 8 does. This is supposed to make things faster and in my observation, it does. The CPU use in games could be a little higher because the new Direct X runtimes in DX 12 allow all the cores of the CPU to work in conjunction with the cores of the GPU far more efficiently. You even see slight performance gains in games written for DX 11 or even 9. The difference is greater if you have AMD hardware.

If you have just installed 10 and then looked at the results, you're not getting the true picture. You have to either wait for Windows to run it's optimization routines or force them to run yourself. Alternatively, you can use a third party defrag program like Puran and run a boot time defrag which will defragment everything, the registry, Master boot record, and page file included. If you set it to run the optimizer it will place the system files in the fastest part of the drive and speed things up even more. Windows will do this by itself eventually but you may have to wait days for it to happen. Your Win 7 system had been optimized countless times, at least once a week. Give 10 at least a week before you judge it. It keeps getting better during that time. Right after the upgrade, things are a bit jumbled. For example, my registry was fragmented into 27 pieces, the entire disk was about 25% fragmented, and it took over 3 minutes for my computer to fully boot up with everything loaded. After defrag and optimization, it went down to 70 to 80 seconds which is pretty much the same as it did with 8.1.

I use a 1TB WD 7200 Black Hard Drive and when I can get a 1TB SSD for the same price I will. My PC is fast enough for me.

The boot time on win 7 is about 20 seconds(max 30s)- on win 10 was over 1 minute
And if you need to do all this..ahem..work why the hell they call it the best and the fastest?
Win 7 and 8 are light and perfect right after the install without tweaking anything. (not sure about win8)
another fun fact- RAM goes over 60% when using any program and HDD activity stays between 90-100% without doing anything. So yes, it is a OS problem.
About games, I don't have a dx11 video card.
There was no performance whatsoever, in fact it decreased the number of fps drastically. And yes, I had it installed for more than 2 weeks. I hoped it would change something, some updates ...something...but nope. Nothing changed.Also, lagging like hell when in explorer- My computer etc, or when copying files...I wouldn't even consider it a beta product. I will wait some time until more updates (important ones- not like the latest) come and then I will decide if I reinstall it or not.
