Windows 9 to Merge Windows, Windows Phone Development

    Posted: 08 Oct 2013

According to a number of media reports that have emerged lately, Redmond is currently working on what could be a mix of the existing Windows Store and the Windows Phone Store, thus trying to address the lack of apps on the existing platforms.

It turns out however that Microsoft is having more than that in mind, as the company might after all merge the entire development process of the two operating systems

Interesting, that is the only problem really with having a Windows Phone, there is nowhere near as many apps as an android phone.
Mind you so far there aren't many that I'd like to have but can't.

Joan, I have to disagree with you a bit: so far on my Windows Phone 8, I have found every app I have searched, an app for every purpose I have thought I want an app for. What is notable in my case is that I have found everything for free, I have not paid for a single app (one special app I need to watch my IPTV subscription on phone excluded).

BTW Joan, your's is also Windows Phone 8? May I use you as a guinea pig to test an app I have been working with, a combined SF/EF Windows Phone 8 app? It's still quite raw, takes certainly a few weeks before I could let you test it.

That's OK Kari I'll be your guinea pig. Yes I have the Nokia Lumia 520 which is the entry level version of Lumia so not sure just how good it will be for your purpose.
Let me know when you need me.

Oh! and yes so far I have all the apps I need and haven't paid for any, as I'm still playing with it I'm sure I've not got all the apps I want yet.

A bloke I work with went with a Lumia for a while and was gutted that a lot of apps he had on his iPhone weren't available on Windows phone (Battlelog, Steam etc) which I actually found quite bizarre. Gaming is infinitely bigger on Windows desktops than Macs, yet nobody is backing this up on Windows mobile devices.

I will gladly try a Windows phone when there is a full compliment of apps and they bring out a model that physically looks like an iPhone, HTC One or Sony Xperia.

I am not a gamer, I use my phone for connecting with people, private and at work, for scheduling, browsing news, to listen music and watch videos. For my purposes it's really like I said earlier: I have all apps I have looked for, and an app for every purpose I have searched for an app. All free.

An additional bonus, a big one, is how well Windows Phone 8 is integrated and works together with Windows 8. The synergy is there, interesting to wait and see how well it all works when Microsoft gets the app structure and Store for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone merged.

I am a very happy and satisfied Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 user.

I appreciate you're happy with a Windows 8 phone Kari, my point was that it's just not an 'all-rounder' yet. When it is I'll be happy to give it a go. My mobile app usage is very limited beyond forum posting and at the moment Windows phone doesn't have many of the few apps I use.
I completely understand it's perfect for others though.

I'm with Kari, I have all the ones I need so far, all free as well. I'm not a gamer but do like having the Data monitor and Speed testing app also the Kindle app so I can read my book while on the bus. I love it for the camera as well it takes really decent photo's.

I was apprehensive when first getting a Windows phone but I'm pleasantly surprised at how much you can do with it.

I have a MS () Lumia 520, it has turned out to be much more than I expected, great phone.

Only see these improving and becoming a welcome change in the Phone market.
