I tend to agree with that statement.
I would likely be the poster child for reckless surfing the net. Ever since 2001 I have been using the latest Norton product with active subscription on 3 different machines running XP, W7, W8, W8.1, W8.1.1 and now W10 and have never, ever, EVER been infected with a virus, unwanted malware, Adware or anything. Since it's been available I have been using MBAM and scan every several days but it never finds anything except an occasional PUP from something I did deliberately. I would never recommend to any user that Defender is enough as your primary defense.
Many still say Norton is a resource hog, well my current version shows 11 MB in task manager but Cortana eats up 28.9 MB in task manager whether I like it or not and it is disabled. Talk about resource hog, but I guess that's OK for some.
BTW, When I updated my 6 month old HP laptop (8.1) to W10 my current Norton product never even blinked and it was not uninstalled or even disabled prior to the upgrade.
And NO! I do not have any association with Norton
