Gator. Nothing ventured nothing gained, if after the scan you had clicked on "Cleaning" your computer then would shut down and restart, comprehensively listing everything it had removed and from where, naming each O/S.

I wouldn't mind betting Hitman Pro would find a few more, Its free for a month.
I got rid of everything first time around except the 2 in Path section and looked up what I could find on the others. The reg. key Appscion was the only item that is a little bothersome. All-in-all I am kind of surprised there was not more because I know that Norton and MBAM can miss some of these things and I really am all over the place on the net but after so many years on the net I have a pretty good feel of what not to do and I have had very good results with Norton over the years. I will make AdwCleaner part of my toolbox and look at Hitman Pro as well.

Thanks for the info, very interesting

EDIT: Tenebril produces consumer security software products. Our premium product GhostSurf Platinum, offers comprehensive online privacy and spyware protection, helping users to protect their identity while on the Internet. Our SpyCatcher Express product is a popular free download. GhostMyMail is an innovative anti-spam solution that eliminates spam without restricting users online activities.

    Ring any bells?
Thanks for your comments. I got rid of everything except for the 2 in the Path Section. I guess Norton does a pretty good job considering my surfing habits but I have been doing this for a long time and have pretty good idea of what not to do, where not to go and when to stop.

As for the products you mentioned, I don't recall ever seeing any reference to any of them and I am the only one who uses this computer but obviously something sneaked in anyway.

That article/ test is almost two years old. I think MS has done better now that they've integrated Defender into their OS's since that was written for XP and Vista, don't you think ?

All I know is that it consistently scores so low on AV tests, it is now used as the baseline. Other products are rated on how much better they perform then MSE. How the Windows 10 version fares, I do not know. How products rate changes from test to test.

This test includes Microsoft's built-in antivirus as a baseline, separate from the actual test set.

As for Microsoft, some test houses, such as AV-test, use Microsoft as a baseline for comparison’s sake. But Microsoft’s System Center caught only 76 percent of the known malware samples that AV-test threw at it, and 76 percent of the so-called “zero-day” antimalware as well. That’s far worse than the industry average of 95 percent or so that its competitors detected. (BitDefender, by contrast, caught everything—100 percent.)

I'm not anti MSE/Defender, I can only say that it consistently performs poorly in AV tests of multiple programs.

All tests undertaken by AV testing sites are done using ALL KNOWN infections.
Defender offers "Real Time Protection" from instant day attacks.

Do read my post #33 ie:- Kaspersky.

What timing. Today's HowToGeek article is on Defender as an anti-virus solution -
What's the Best Antivirus for Windows 10? (Is Windows Defender Good Enough?)

I have used their bottom line recommendation for past year (Defender + MB AntiExploit Pro) in combo with Malwarebyte Antimalware Pro with no problems except an occasional PUP. Their conclusion is using care is just as important as whatever programs make you feel better-

"Whatever antivirus you choose, it won’t provide complete protection. If you download and run harmful programs, you’re going to end up in trouble at some point.Selecting an antivirus that has better protection scores against obscure malware you may never encounter may help make you a bit safer, but other security practices are more important. Ensuring you stay safe and keep your system secure is more helpful.
And, considering the scariest attacks these days are zero-days that use holes in browser plug-ins and plug-ins themselves to compromise your system, MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit will likely offer better real security against the actual most dangerous attacks than a replacement antivirus."

Norton is also compatible, it updated specially for 10.
Agreed, I used the beta version of Norton Security on the Win Insider versions. The results of that testing has already been pushed out to users of the product, just before the July 29th release.

Hard to believe this site did their homework on that article.
