Especially when testing Insider builds, it is a good idea to to have an option to fast restore Windows 10 to a state when it worked OK. I made a tut to show how you can create a custom "factory recovery" partition fast and easy.

    Anyone else seeing this:

After each cold boot, hypervisor is turned off:

This naturally means that no virtual machines (Hyper-V) can be run:

Workaround is easy but annoying when you have to do it after every cold boot, just run following command in an elevated Command Prompt:

    bcdedit /set {current} hypervisorlaunchtype auto

After restart, hypervisor is on and I can run VMs. It stays on after warm boot (restart) but is again turned off if I shut down and make a cold boot.

Clean install got rid of a lot of bugs and cruft!

    (Still can't stand Edge!!!)

@Kari : you're right, that Edge icon is hideous!

Further to my explorer.exe woes in this build:
I, very occasionally, have a reason to use Word Perfect. So I haven't attempted to run it on all Insider builds. The version I have is Corel Home & Student WordPerfect Office X6.
In this build (17704.1000) Word Perfect crashes when attempting to open it. The error message is:

    "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: ...s (x86)\Corel \WordPerfect Office
    X6\Programs\wpwin16.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I ran a repair, from Programs & Features/change. That didn't fix the crash. I then completely uninstalled Corel WordPerfect Office X6, restarted W10, re-installed Corel WordPerfect Office X6. But the crash kept occurring. I have since uninstalled Corel WordPerfect Office X6.

I am also experiencing explorer.exe hangs/crashes in this Insider build (reported in Feedback Hub.) I wondered if there was some unintended interaction between them, but explorer.exe has hung again since uninstalling Corel WordPerfect Office X6.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
My copy is way out of date, they're on v9 now, and have offered me an upgrade, but I have no wish to pay for the upgrade.
I think I can get by without WP.

I know why the Classic Shell won't behave with the last two updates and I am going to fix it so I can use it and if any one else would like to use it as before. Let me know if your interested.

I'm guessing that 17709 or 17710 is coming our way this week. We will see.

    Kari, nice custom recovery tutorial!

Well I got my laptop up to the latest build, I found on it the other day that I had several windows.old folders and of course resetting it I had the issue with it switching to Enterprise, but the tutorial here allowed me to get it back down to Pro and activated under my account.

A big shout-out to Tomcat, Who provided me with an ISO of the build in case I needed it, however MS offered the build about 30 minutes after the reset and it installed fine, so I believe the messed-up windows.old folders and probably a few other permissions issues on it were the cause...
