I don't see what's the problem. The "default" program is the program that opens up when you click on a file with the particular extension. Int he case of a browser, if you have a .html file and click on it, your default browser will open up. Alternatively, if you click on a web link in some other program, say in Acrobat, the system will open that web page in the default browser.

Personally, I don't care about it since I don't keep html files and I don't allow Acrobat to access the Internet. Unless that's important, I don't see what's the big deal about the default is. In fact, I never use IE - or Edge, whatever - but I also never change the default, I don't see why would that be important to me.

As to following the money - I believe that's the right reason for them to complain, but since I don't care about other people's money (only about my own money ) , I am not usually following these "wars of words" and never cared for the N version, even though I live in the EU.

Right?? So Apple doesn't have a default? Androids don't have a default?

So many sites these days trying for any clicks they can get. I hope most of you are smart enough to not click something so ridiculous.

Why don't you develop a touch friendly browser, Mozilla, so I can desire to use your product? GTFO!
With Android if you use their search engine (Google Now) and it needs to use a browser it asks you which browser you want to use and if you want to make it the default.

Microsoft does give you the option to change the defaults when you set up Windows during an upgrade but it is not that obvious to do because in big type it shows "use suggested settings" and in little type on the other side of the screen it shows "change settings".

I like Firefox but that's not the point - for many users not as skilled as the users of TenForums switching defaults is intimidating and they will stick with the defaults if not given an easy option to switch.

Edge is tightly coupled with Cortana and so far, there is no way to uncouple it. You can't tell Cortana to use IE 11, Firefox, Chrome, etc.
Huh i tell cortona to open google chrome all the time and it does, if i search for something it will open chrome in bing but it works. I don't like the way it opens chrome in bing though as i don't use the bing engine, but oh well one quirk out of none i have had so far is pretty good i would say.

If you upgrading from a previous version and already have chosen a default browser why change it to a different one? On the upgrade from Windows 7 for most items Microsoft kept my default preferences. All in all I am pretty happy with the Windows 10 upgrade except for some programs that the upgrade adviser stated was compatible but was not, plus the uninstall of my Comcast Norton Security Suite without any warnings.
the comcast stuff had to be manually updated to the latest one off comcast servers, I got aa email from them to update it before i did the win 10 update. Once it was updated to win 10 version mine did not remove it stayed.

    What version are you running?
I had to re-download Comcast Norton Security Suite after I updated and I am running the same version as before the Windows 10 update 21.7.0/11 plus when I just went to the Comcast page for download of the software it states:

    • Microsoft Windows® XP (32-bit) with Service Pack 2 or later Home / Professional / Media Center
    • Microsoft Windows Vista® (32-bit and 64-bit) Starter / Home Basic / Home Premium / Business / Ultimate
    • Microsoft Windows® 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) Starter / Home Basic / Home Premium / Professional / Ultimate
    • Microsoft Windows® 8 and 8.1

but the software after the install on Windows 10 runs fine.

That's what I did on the July 29 (after my Comcast Norton Security Suite got deleted) in the morning but they still had the old version. I just updated to the new version - thanks!!!

You don't have to put up with Bing either. There are already Chrome extensions that auto redirect Cortana's bing searches to google, (e.g., bing2google or chrometana).
